Nothing To See Here

Posted by on Wed, Sep 16, 2009 at 1:45 PM

One of the men arrested during the raid on the Atlanta Eagle last week wasn't technically at the Eagle:

An employee who lives in an apartment over the Eagle, who said he was not working that night, said someone started pounding on his door. He opened the door to two cops who asked if anyone was having sex there. They asked why there was a bed and he said it was because he lives there. He was made to come downstairs and was arrested with the other employees.

The police asked if anyone was "having sex in there"—in his private apartment. Get that man a lawyer. More excerpts from complaints filed by the men who were detained and/or arrested at the Atlanta Eagle at the Southern Voice.

Dan,
Tawana Brawley was raped on the nasty floor of the Eagle by Atlanta Police Swat team thugs.
That's right, Tawana Brawley.
That poor girl can't catch a break.
Can you please look into this?

From the Southern Voice:

According to APD Deputy Chief Carlos Banda six other clubs — none of them gay — in the past three months have been raided in similar manners to the Atlanta Eagle, including people being forced to lie on the ground, searched and arrested.
Those clubs were exotic dancing clubs Pleasers on Cleveland Avenue, Goldrush on Metropolitan Parkway, Foxy Lady on Moreland Avenue, Candy Shop on Empire Boulevard and the Playground, which has no listed address on the internet. The Masquerade, a popular music and dance venue located on North Avenue, was also raided.

I'm sure this point will be taken the wrong way, but it should be pointed out that many heterosexual "buy me drinky" bars have rooms with beds upstairs.

The fact that it was an apartment and not a room for other purposes may not have been immediately obvious.

Did they have a warrant?

If not, this action, like that against that Prof the cops arrested on his own property, is not just extra-legal but should result in some fired cops.

I heard there were more than six other traffic stops in LA the night that Rodney King was beaten there by proving the beating wasn't racially motivated.

An employee who was arrested said that after the customers were allowed to leave, "the officers started high fiving and jumping up in the air bumping into each other like they were at a football game."

that WAS insensitive.

Again, let's review: APD has a "culture of misconduct" and "widespread corruption" and refuses to release an FBI report on said corruption after shooting a 92 year old grandmother in the head.

Why would gay people have a problem with them using the old saw of "gay bars are full of sex and drugs"? Why would they have a problem with them high fiving eachother after the bust? Why would they have a problem with rampant use of the word "fag"? Why would they have a problem with the APD detaining people for 1 to 2 hours and finding nothing and still arresting folks on trumped up charges?

GOSH, GAY PEOPLE ARE JUST ALL ABOUT THOSE CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS, WTF IS UP WITH THAT?

Yeah cuz cops deserve the right to pull you out of your private apartment, ask you if you're having sex there, and arrest you for whatever they think is going on downstairs in a separate business, right?

And cuz cops got a right to change their story as much as they want to justify their actions, right?

God damn...I've got a uniform fetish and all, but some of the posters here have got cop dick rammed so far down their throat it's amazing they can still breathe.

It looks like we have a sockpuppety anonymous guest around here who just LOVES to fantasize about what it would be like to persuade a roomful of gay men to lie face-down on the floor. I wonder what that means.

Has anybody determined whether or not it is in fact illegal to have a sticky floor in Atlanta? Because if it is, then those bar patrons and apartment dwellers are lucky they haven't been given lethal injections yet. Order trumps all. Doesn't it?

Well, they do like nicely watered lawns in Atlanta, so presumably this also includes a lack of sticky floors and being quiet when having sex ...

@24: I was watching news stories during their awful drought and there'd be live shots with a reporter standing on some plush grand lawn outside of wherever they were and I'd wonder "why are they still watering their lawns?"

Don't forget grammar. Grammar, punctuation, and spelling count. We are the educated liberal elites here on Slog. We demand our comments be intelligent, literate, and funny. Poor dear "LaRiiiiM0RrrHAwtiiii696969" is none of those.

#30. I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not. But if you're being sarcastic, expecting/preferring correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling in an online discussion shouldn't be considered "elite" or "liberal," but rather a basic standard of any worthwhile society, shouldn't it?

And if not, why not?

And what the hell is wrong with being educated or elite anyway? Or liberal for that matter?

I hid that commenter the first time I saw his/her post. I never want to see anything he/she says (or tries to say) again. Life's too short.

from Southern Voice blogs:

It's unfair to blame the mayor for how a few police officers acted. It's more important that the city investigate the claims and reprimand any officer that went beyond the law. I'm confused though at why there only 9 complaints and how "several" said they didn't hear discriminatory comments and others did. The "I hate homosexuals" is particularly perplexing as that's so formal and not very engaging. If these people are lying, just to make a stink and make the raid seem more reprehensible that it was, I hope they are prosecuted.

I am not Biased I have been to the Eagle on Thursday nights and I have seen people having full on unprotected anal sex, oral sex and doing drugs in the back rooms. I do believe that this raid is an isolated incident, being that Blakes does not get raided,There is no police presence at Outwright Bookstore . I am inclined to believe the Eagle had it coming. They did something wrong and should have to deal with all the consequences -Stop pulling the anti -gay card here!! There was no hate involved The owners of the Eagle as well as the staff got what they deserved.

Seriously ,What a travesty ? NO ! The Eagle has a backroom where people are doing drugs and participating in unsafe sex practices on Thursday nights . Give me a break! They were wrong by allowing this kind of behavior to happen in their bar. The Staff and owners were FULLY aware of what was going on. Pay the fine quit your whining. If the Eagle gets shut down well lesson available for other bar owners.
