Man Robbed, Stripped Naked in The Jungle

Posted by on Wed, Sep 16, 2009 at 12:05 PM

A 42-year-old man was beaten, robbed, and stripped naked in The Jungle earlier this month, a police report says.

On September 7, at 2:30 a.m., two officers spotted a man walking down Dearborn Street near 10th Avenue, who wearing only his socks and underwear, and was bleeding from is head.

The 42-year-old man told police he was walking east on South Dearborn sometime between midnight and 1:00 a.m., when he was approached by a man and a woman, who asked if he had any money. The man and the woman then began punching and kicking the 42-year-old man, the report says, knocking him to the ground.

The man and woman dragged then 42-year-old man into the Jungle—a densely wooded area on the northwest side of Beacon Hill—where three other men appeared and began attacking the 42-year-old man with sticks. The report says the group took the man's wallet and clothes, and then fled the area.

The report says the 42-year-old man sustained several cuts to his head and a broken nose in the attack.
Police did not make any arrests.

There is slow but persistent business/convention-center push to create a no-panhandlers (read: scary non-business folk) zone in downtown Seattle; ala Tacoma. This sort of apparently lackadaisical police response will lead support to such an (unconstitutional?) zone. ...more's the pity.

I get the feeling that there may be a little more to this story....

Now, see, that's the kind of panhandler I don't like. The kind that drags you off into the woods, strips you, and beats you with sticks when you don't give them any change.

sounds like its past time to sweep the jungle again. offer a choice: tent city or bus ticket.

By and large, being snarky is a poor substitute for being smart, and what we see here in this thread is no exception.

Me? I feel terrible for the guy, who will most likely experience an ongoing form PTSD because of this. I don't see this as funny at all.

Forgive the quibble, but how is he naked if he's wearing socks and underwear?

from what I understand, the jungle is a pretty much cop-free, do whatever the fuck you want zone... $10 for a crack rock, $10 for a tent to smoke it in, $10 for a girl to smoke it with you.

And show up with no money and get the shit beat out of you (and apparently stripped).

Well, maybe if we gave people coupons they could give to the panhandlers that the panhandlers could then go exchange for food and clothing, then hobos could drag people off into the hobo jungle and beat them with sticks for their coupons...

Don't feel sorry for the guy. There is no reason why a man should be on 10th and dearborn at 1 am. There are no houses.

He was buying crack.
