Re: Rebuked

Posted by on Tue, Sep 15, 2009 at 3:23 PM

Of the 245 Democrats in the House of Representatives, 12 members voted against rebuking South Carolina's Joe Wilson. Among the dozen: Seattle's Jim McDermott.

You can see the roll call on the final vote here. Other Dems who didn't vote to rebuke: Arcuri, Delahunt, Glifford, Hinchey, Hodes, Kucinich, Maffei, Massa, Moore (WI), Taylor, and Teague. Plenty of lefty liberals in the anti-rebuke dozen could want to say whatever they want, whenever they want to; perhaps they're foreseeing a time when they might want to call out "You lie!"

Tip from Barry.

I can see why. After he served the public good by releasing the anti-American plans of Speaker Gingrich and got burned with a rebuke and fine, there's no way Jim would vote for it.

No, actually because Jim McDermott is a piece of shit. He has no principles at all. He SUPPORTS gay rights, but refuses to ACT to make them a reality.

Uh, if he survived eight years of egregious Bush lies without feeling the urge, it's never going to come.

He did the right thing. There was outrage, and Congressman Wilson apologized. (Non)Issue Over.

Maybe McDermott knows better than to play into the 90s stereotype of Liberals being more concerned about hurt feelings than actual policy. Maybe McDermott knows better than to make Wilson into a conservative martyr.

Point of Order: Kucinich voted in the same fashion as Jim. Now, it's not like Kucinich is one of those "Middle-of-the-road" Democrats. He is closer to Socialist whatz-it that the Right Wing Nutters claim Obama is.

Is it possible, that the No vote by these people, was simply to point out that this whole thing is a load of crap? When we are still debating health care, dadt, etc. instead of actually doing something about it, Congress decides to forget all about those issues and "Rebuke" some idiot? Why are they wasting their time with this? It is the democrats equivalent of the flag burning & "Under God"...a lot of rhetoric that is used for swaying votes to the simple minded, but in the end, has no substance because it amounts to nothing.

Wilson's apology was followed up quickly by campaigning for re-election on the idea that he spoke truth to power. It's one thing to move on, but it's another to overlook cynical capitilization upon a rather severe and racially-tinged breach of state decorum.

If Bobby Rush had called GW a liar during a joint session, the GOP would have hunted him down like a dog long, long after he had apologized. Wilson is still getting off god damn easy.

Barney Frank hates gay people. He SUPPORTS gay rights, but refuses to ACT to make them a reality.
