The Patriot Act, Warrantless Wiretapping, Black Sites, Torture, Extraordinary Rendition...

Posted by on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 9:40 AM

NYT:

Tens of thousands of protesters from around the country marched to the Capitol on Saturday to demonstrate against the White House and Congress for what they say is an ever-expanding intrusion of government.... "This is not some kind of radical right-wing group,” Senator Jim DeMint, Republican of South Carolina, said in an interview as dozens of people streamed by him a few blocks from the White House.

No, the protesters aren't some radical right-wing group. That was the previous administration. The protesters are a bunch of radically retarded leotarded morons. They were utterly silent during the Bush years—through warrantless wiretapping, the Patriot Act, extreme rendition, torture, political prosecutions—but now they're on the march because our freeeeeeedoms are under threat... from that black muslin dude who wants to make sure that all Americans have health insurance and who had the nerve to tell their children to stay in school and listen to their teachers! (Sometimes teachers teach evolution! Wasn't Ward Churchill a teacher? Didn't HITLER have teachers?!?!) And the protesters are so mad at Nancy Pelosi for accusing them of comparing Barack Obama to Adolph Hitler because that is absolutely not true and if anyone is accusing anyone of being Nazi Hitlers it's left wingers accusing—oh, wait.

changeitback.jpg

"There is a huge crowd down here between the Capitol and the near the Washington Monument," writes Slog tipper & commenter BrinkleyBoy, who sent the above picture. "The crowd is almost exclusively white—like over 99%—and mostly old. There is a lot of cigar smoking going on too. Maybe that's a Limbaugh thing?"

BrinkleyBoy is at the rally now.

"There is someone on the Capitol lawn who I can't see and they're mainly shouting bad puns like 'It's time for Pelosi to Go-si.' The crowd's signs are all over the right-wing map, but there are some recurrent themes: Obama is a socialist—like Hitler and Stalin. The Government is terrible and can't do anything right but America is the greatest country in the world. We have the best health care in the world already. Pray to Jesus. The crowd marching up from Metro Center also had the oh so clever shout, 'Throw him out, yes we can!' Hahaha! I get it! (I heard a guy refer to three black cops who rode trough the crowd as Gastapo. Nice to see their respect for those encharged to serve and protect.) I used to think the left's anti-Bush messages were a little too rancorous at times. After seeing the Tea-baggers out today, the Bush-haters seem really mild in comparison."

A few more of Scott's pictures—Obama is Hitler! Obama is Lenin! Obama is Marx!—after the jump.

Hit a nerve, did they!

@10, I think it's more of a Christian supremacist flag. It would be rude & snotty of me to point out that there probably aren't a lot of black or brown people among the Christian supremacist movement, either.

Dan, Dan, Dan:

Black sites, not black sights.

Extraordinary rendition, not extreme rendition.

Although "extreme" is a better term! Note, you'll hear on NPR, Pacifica, Democracy Now, when they're discussing death squads in places like Honduras, "extrajudicial killings." Huh? There are listeners whose brains are going to receive that as "super legal system-y, lots of judicial!" Howzabout simple old English, say, "lawless murders"? So yeah, extreme rendition may be a better term. "Extraordinary" makes it sound like our CIA/Blackwater kidnapping goons are just way cool and swing in on Spiderman threads and fly away with their prisoner on a jet scooter.

Now, while I'm correcting everybody's papers today,

last photo in the series,

you DUMB MOTHERFUCKERS

that's the kind of military general garb that a RIGHT WING MILITARIST DICTATOR IN LATIN AMERICA WOULD WEAR. Like, say, YOUR GOOD BUDDY PINOCHET, WHOM YOU LOVED when he saved the country from Allende-communo-fascism... on 9/11... 9/11/73. Your beloved Nixon & Kissinger...

Oh, why do I even fucking bother. Facts are meaningless. These folks can't tell the difference between a few percentage points change in tax rate for the top income bracket, and a gulag prison camp. What would it take to teach them? I mean, other than...

So... why does it matter that they are black? It's only okay to speak disparagingly about white cops? I've heard lefties refer to Jews who support Israel as Nazi's... and as far as being disrespectful to cops... I don't see people complaining when it is NOT white conservatives doin the disrespecting. Just sayin'

@ 15 - it's both willfully ignorant and culturally insensitive to refer to anyone black as "Gestapo," yes, considering how the actual Nazi-era German Gestapo depicted and treated anyone of African descent. Referring to white American cops as Gestapo would be only ignorant and misleading without the extra spice of insensitivity.

I've never heard anyone refer to a Jew who supports Israel as a Nazi. I have heard far leftists refer to hawkish members of Israeli government as Nazis. Again, I think it's horrifically insensitive, and that there are better ways to make the point that the Israeli government has trapped itself into the role of the oppressor, and into a cycle of ever-escalating violence with Hamas and other extremist groups.

All the "Obama is Hitler!" and "Obama is Stalin!" craziness makes me wonder if in ten years, the same crowd will be trotting out "____ is Obama!" as the new insult.

I see that you edited "retarded" to read "leotarded" as a joke. When I first read it, I had to do a quick double-take and thought that maybe "radically retarded" was a bit akward, but understood it to mean the opposite of progressive. I remembered my Chilton's manual mentioning "retarding the carburetor".
"Mentally retarded" may have fallen out of favor, but I think the word can be used without offending people.
From a site on the internets: 1. To keep delaying; to continue to hinder; to prevent from progress; to render more slow in progress; to impede; to hinder; as, to retard the march of an army; to retard the motion of a ship; -- opposed to {accelerate}.

After being abducted to a stud farm in Kentucky, James Bond met Goldfinger's henchwoman Pussy Galore, the blonde lesbian-leaning leader of an all-female Flying Circus aerial troupe, poised to spray lethal nerve gas over Fort Knox.

This has happened in America: but this time, Pussy Galore and her Pussies have overflown the country spraying lethal stupid gas. Smart, intelligent citizens who actually know how to drive cars, program DVRs and trim their toenails have succumbed to a collective, infectious stupidity, embracing new canards about death cells, Obama's birthplace, socialism and the right to bear Uzis at Disney World or wherever that neo-Nazi may appear. Yeah, that Man who had the temerity to to tell the country's youth to "listen up!" instead of asking "wassup?".

I hope somewhere a Christopher Isherwood is keeping a diary that later will be fictionalized as "I Am a Blackberry", then turned into a musical "Gay Bar".

1. It's funny how these people just throw together the names of random political and religious philosophies to form an insult. Muslim Marxist! Marxist Fascist! Nazi Communist! Liberal Socialist Nazi! My great aunt constantly forwards me whacky emails, several of which actually refer to the Muslim Zionist tyrant in the White House.

2. It's been said before, I'll say it again... where the fuck where these people during the 8 years Cheney and his lapdog Bush were gutting the Justice Department, waging endless wars (which their crony friends benefited from through lucrative defense, security and construction contracts), torturing prisoners, conducting illegal wiretaps and other forms of domestic spying, stealing elections, and finally, in their swan song, bring the entire fucking planet to its knees in the biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression? I forgot to masturbate a second time today, to make up for my abstention, yesterday.

I don't think this crowd knows what they're doing. They've been told by their peerless leaders who the enemy is, and that he weakens the country and is anti-American and this has something (obtuse) to do with healthcare, natural illegitimacy and the price of tea, and they march where directed, be it to the White House or off a pier. I don't think they even have memory to harken back to a time when illegal wiretapping, extraordinary rendition, the Axis of Evil, the Coalition of the Willing and Weapons of Mass Destruction were the buzz-words of the day.

Keep in mind that willful stupidity is contagious, and communicates quickly through large groups.

@45 - sure anytime. If you recall during the election, a white Christian couple were interviewed about why they were voting for McCain/Palin. The wife basically said "Obama's not the right type of Christian". I saw that and instantly knew that was a racist comment. Back in the South anytime a white Christian complained about a black Christian, especially when the conversation ventured to Civil rights, they'd always say "well she/he is not the right type of Christian for me to associate with/invite into my home". Research the history of the Southern Baptists Convention. There's a reason why the Southern Baptist Convention is now trying to shed their racist past and it's having a very hard time doing so.

Kebdrgn not to mention the white field is so huge it can be easily confused as the white flag of surrender. And yes, to heralds, things like that are an issue.

Better a white cross on a blue field. Of course the large red field then would make it too much like a commie flag. Red cross on white, large blue field?

mmbb_c @65 Democracy gives everyone a voice, but only a private one to make a lot of multiple choice (or true/false) statements, i.e. to vote. The First Amendment of the Bill of Rights gives everyone a voice to say what they want to anyone who will listen to them. It's from this that we get the right to assemble, to petition regarding grievances and so on.

Of course, a lot of folk are fools, and it's just embarrassing to see them try to represent themselves as if they know what they're doing or actually represent their own best interests. It reminds me of when David Letterman would quiz folks on the streets of academic trivia; such people would practice their First Amendment right to display their ignorance to the rest of the free world.

As I expressed above, these protestors don't seem to know what is good for them, only that some Murdoch puppet they follow riled them up with buzzwords like Freedom, Socialism, Death Panel, etc., and by comparing Obama to Hitler, Stalin or whoever. Said puppet then pointed them on a marching tirade. These activists don't really know why they march, but that Obama's the enemy and that's good enough for them. They're activist zombies, and now the rest of the world has yet another reaffirmation of their American stereotypes.

Atlanta Police LGBT Liaison Officer Dani Lynn Harris said there was a complaint of illegal activities at the Eagle. After the complaint was made undercover officers were sent to the Eagle where they discovered enough information to secure a warrant for the raid.

In an interview with Southern Voice on Friday morning, Harris said the APD officers followed the same procedures they would have used for raiding any other nightclub.

In a third interview late Friday, Harris said that the raid originated from two anonymous complaints: one to the mayor's tip line and the other to Crimestoppers. The complaints alleged that Thursday is "sex night" at the club and that gay men were having sex not only in the club but outside as well, she said.

“The original complaint received is that on Thursday night at the club is sex night. … It's saying the club is a sleezy place on Thursday all that goes on is solicting of sex," Harris said.

According to Harris, the complaints claimed that the club owners retaliated against neighbors by pointing speakers at residential apartment complexes nearby and playings sounds of gay men having sex.
