Two readings at Elliott Bay Book Company. Rachel Brownell reads from Mommy Doesn't Drink Here Anymore, a book about parenthood and alcoholism, which is such a common combination that there should be compound word for it: Parentholism? And then Cecile Andrews and John DeGraaf read from Less is More: Embracing Simplicity for a Healthy Planet, a Caring Economy, and Lasting Happiness. This book is about how we can foster "a movement that leads to policy changes in government and corporate behavior, work hours, the wealth gap, and sustainability." Glenn Beck has probably called these authors socialists already.
But the reading of the day (not including Ms. Goodall, of course) is at Barça. There is an event called the Bar Room Writers Initiative, in which poets will read. Here are some of the poets: Eric Greenwalt (author of Better than Blood), Davey Johnston, Mortimur K,and Christien Storm. And Doug Nufer, who is one of my favorite Seattle poets, will host the event. He reportedly has a special outfit. It's free. And you can drink beer. Sold!
The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here. And if you're planning on staying in and you're looking for personalized book recommendations, feel free to tell me the books you like and ask me what to read next over at Questionland.
