Glenn Beckwatch: His Influence Grows

Posted by Paul Constant on Thu, Sep 10, 2009 at 1:57 PM

glennbeckphoto.png
At least in part due to Glenn Beck's influence, Obama administration aide Yosi Sergant was asked to resign today.

Beck attacked Sergant and the NEA on his Fox News talk show, accusing the agency of propaganda efforts similar to those used by Nazi Germany. And now Sergant has been tossed overboard, making him Beck's second victim in his campaign to rid the administration of perceived radicals, socialists, communists, fascists, anarchists and all other manner of nefarious influences.

Conservatives are considering this an opportunity to attack the N.E.A.

I hate to evoke this name, because it has a tendency (like Hitler's) to be overused in this internetty age, but Glenn Beck is looking more and more (and more and more) like the 21st Century's answer to Senator Joe McCarthy. But since he doesn't hold elected office, Beck could be even harder to get rid of than McCarthy was.

Color of Change is still looking for people to help them urge advertisers to pull their support of Beck. I assume that people are preparing to protest the decision by Mount Vernon Mayor Bud Norris to give Beck the key to the city on September 26th, but I have not heard anything concrete yet. People who have protest or boycott plans should send me an e-mail and I will post them here in Glenn Beckwatch.

UPDATE: Of course, I forgot to mention the Facebook Group Jon Stewart, Accept a Key to Bellingham, WA. Thanks, Slog tipper Matt.

I remember when Beck was less crazy than he is now when he was on CNN. Even then I was surprised he wasn't on Fox.

I'd be willing to bet that the same thing will happen to John Stossel.

John Stossel's mustache is legendary.

But why won't Glenn Beck deny he raped and killed a young lady in 1990? His silence is very scary; especially to someone who carries so much....authority. *puke puke"*

You can disagree with the Iraq War or George Bush all you want but if you are in the White House and support the idea that 9/11 was an inside job (basically saying Bush set it all up) you better be investigating with tribunals or be shown the door.
This current issue is a little less clear to me since I DO think George Bush did similar things to support his agenda.

I'm glad to hear that since Glenn Beck raped and murdered that young girl, he's improved a bit.

Sadly, at some point, he'll probably end up writing for the Washington Post.

I love Stossel's 'Give Me A Break' segments. Those were bonding moments for me and my dad growing up. We'd have long conversations after 20/20 about the topic and what a good solution would be to the issue.
I'm gonna miss a sane Stossel.

So, I get to quote my favorite band, R.E.M., again by saying they are "exhuming McCarthy"?

I can't but laugh everytime I see that pic you choose to use. It's like, "Wahh, bleh, bleh, bleh..(snortle, fart)"

@8: But his hair looks soft like a Shetland Pony's. In fact, he looks just like a Shetland Pony!!

OMG, mommy, can I have a Glenn Back for christmas?!

I hate him so much I can't even spell his name right.

THAT GOES DOUBLE FOR YOU, SELEEN DEYON.

@1, I haven't watched TV in years, but I remember Stossel as the whiny bitch whose appearance on 20/20 always made me reach for the "off" button.

...In my new job, I want to dig into the meaning of the words “liberty” and “limited government”. ABC enabled me to do some of that, but Fox offers me more airtime and a new challenge... I ask you for your ideas. A studio audience? Should I wander around Congress?...

God no. Please no. Or whatever. I don't care.

The real question is when the administration will grow a pair and tell these idiots that they can appoint their own cabinet members when they win an election.

You realize that the more you write about some guy on TV, the more his ratings go up, right? I still say just change the channel -- some guy on TV yelling about politics is neither riveting viewing or a threat to my well being.

@5: though both are conspiracies, there's quite a wide gulf between MIHOP and LIHOP. LIHOP just required taking their eye off the ball, which no one can deny the Bush Admin. did.

I am still not convinced Glenn Beck raped that you girl(not verified) BEFORE the murder.

Ole' "Tailgunner" Joe is probably laughing his pitchfork-poked ass off right about now.

Seriously, comparing Beck to McCarthy is like comparing a midget wrestler to Mike Tyson; it's like comparing this to this.

Clearly Glenn Beck is a huge douche, but is nobody here bothered by the NEA trying to forward a political agenda? Shouldn't we want better from our leaders, especially the ones we support? If Bush had pulled this what would you say?

Seriously, why in the fuck do right wingers have more influence in the White House than the majority who voted for Obama? Makes you wonder how liberal or progressive Obama really is.

President Obama: Now, I know shit's bad right now … with all that starving bullshit, and the dust storms, and us running out of French fries and burrito coverings. But I got a solution.

South Carolina Representative # 1: That's what you said last time, dipshit!

South Carolina Representative # 2: Yeah, I got a solution, you're a dick! South Carolina - what's up!

McCarthy actually had poltical power. I'd say a more apt comparsion would be with Father Coughlin.

For Glenn Beck being so unimportant you people spend alot of time worrying about him. T he way I see it the score is Glenn two and the socialists zero. The glitz and glamour has worn off the floppy eared muppet and he's being exposed for what he is a socialist. He appeals to losers who don't have the self confidence or pride to make it on their own.

Glenn Beck doesn't have the power to fire anybody... or get anybody fired... anywhere in the US Govt.

It's Obama heeding what Beck says that leads to the firings... nothing else.

Supposedly, all the anti-Obama critics are nothing but a tiny minority of right-wing-nuts.

So why listen to them?

Why?

Nobody here answers that question.

They just whine and moan about the Big Bad Beck as if Beck had power. He doesn't have power. He has truth. He speaks TRUTH to power.

Why appease those who didn't vote for you and never will?

Glenn Beck's own unique power-mad implosion is bound to manifest into something strange and sore.

@1: If the NYT is correct, John Stossel is going to be on *Fox Business Network*, which is not FoxNews Channel. Fox Business Network does have an audience of between 40,000 and 81,000 people at any given time, so this is like electing to spend 40 years in the wilderness.

Obama is listening to them and giving in, just like always, that is the problem. And every time he gives in they just get bolder.
