The Stranger vs. Bobcat Goldthwait

Posted by Lindy West on Wed, Sep 9, 2009 at 3:32 PM

I interviewed Bobcat Goldthwait—an incredibly kind and forthcoming fellow—about his film World's Greatest Dad. Topics covered include: Britney Spears, erotic choking, and how teenagers are pieces of shit. In two parts.

Filmed and edited by the great Kelly O.

Bobcat Goldthwait has a much less annoying voice than I remember. And the movie looks fantastic.

I heart Bobcat. He was shooting Dad in City Hall a few months back and I saw him at the coffee cart and cuz I was confused about what he told me (that they were shooting a film downstairs - "huh? where downstairs?") I went downstairs to check it out and he totally busted me following him - but was really nice about it.

Will, did you see any siff movie this year that wasn't "very very good" or "totally amazing"? Can I view your fools results?

@7 - yes. I didn't even make it into the Top 5 Most Positive rankings for Fool Serious this year.

Some of the movies sucked, like La France did.

After a few years of seeing 100-200 films a year, you get pretty good at figuring out which ones are going to suck and avoid them.

Which is why film critics are so dour - they have to see the films, even if their gut knows it's going to suck big time.

Ian loved the movie too, so it has the teen boy vote.

I believe Will rates movies solely based on their length. "Not bad, but at only 92 minutes it is nowhere near as good as it would have been at 157". That may not be a direct quote, but I think I got the gist of it.

Fnarf, that makes sense. There was a projector bulb breakdown during the showing of this movie that Will attended. So that lengthened the movie by a good 10+ minutes.
