“I agree with you, but the courts don’t.”

Posted by on Wed, Sep 9, 2009 at 9:58 AM

Congresswoman Jean Schmidt, Republican of Ohio, whispers to a batshit crazy white lady constituent—and a cameraman—that she agrees with her: Barack Obama is not a citizen if the United States of America! And therefore he isn't the rightful president—from a constitutional point of view—of these constitutionally constituted United States of America!

Dang courts! Obama wouldn't even be president today if he hadn't successfully packed our constitutionally constituted courts with all those racist Latina lady socialists! And, hey, I didn't realize that Gerald Ford was a punch line at GOP events. I need to get out more! Via Wonkette.

This is our foe. Why are we not destroying these people? Where is universal health? Gay equality? An end to the Bush era PATRIOT Act? Gawd, this just makes me mad at the Dems.

How about a poll on what the fallout of this may or may not be for the good Congresswoman from Ohio?

Maybe the same for the sexy OC rep?

@2 Sadly, most of her district agrees with her. The eyeballin' my bumperstickers get once I leave urban Columbus is a little scary at times.

I don't know if "most" of her district is of the same ilk, But this is one of the most hardcore R districts in Congress. I believe her district includes Indian Hill- the richest suburb of Cincy. Bush II raised most of his money at events hosted there. And it was heavily gerrymandered to make it impossible for a Dem to win. (not that the dems don't do that too). I was living there when she ran and won. Not to be sexist but the easiest comparison I can think of...Palin.

Why is this woman still a representative and not facing charges of treason and sedition?

I'm getting moist thinking about the presumable whispering sessions between her and Michelle Bachmann. Oh, those tightly-wrapped Republican ladies.

This is the end game of the Republican movement. There are no such things as facts, there is only what conservatives assert. Sure, we can all go on and on about evidence such as the certificate of live birth, the birth announcements, and the Hawaiian officials who validated Obama's birth in Hawaii, but that is effectively countered by Jean Schmidt's whisper, so we are back a square one.

Also, note the the conservative two-fer: blame the courts!

Hey! That's the wicked witch lady, isn't it? Seriously, the resemblance is uncanny.

Of all the political mudslinging and conspiracy tactics I can remember from previous administrations, I must say, the birther movement is one of the most bizarre.

Poor Mt. Adams, wedged into this district, and the coolest neighborhood in the 'Nati. Which ain't sayin' much.

Mean Jean. That woman is barking mad. I thought that back in 200 (when she called Marine Corps veteran Murtha a "coward"), and I see no reason to change my opinion of her now.

Um, 2005, not 200. Dammit, when will we get an edit function?

To the American Jihadists, Ford was the original RINO - Republican in name only. They probably think the same thing about George H. W. Bush, too.

#15: its so true. Gerald Ford today looks like he's a little to the left of the Blue Dog Democrats. No wonder he was kind of swept under the rug at the 2004 GOP Convention.

Funny to think in 1976 American you could have a presidental election where both candidates (Ford, Carter) were Pro-Choice.

@10, indeed looks like the WWotW. But Margaret Hamilton is someone I would actually have wanted to know--a kind and decent person in real life.

Schmidt is also highly [over]paid by her benefactors at the Turkish lobby, who prevailed upon her, it seems, to bring a claim before the Ohio Elections Commission against an opponent who dared to reveal that she is in the lobby's well-lined pocket. Apparently neither the lobby nor Mean Jean figured out ahead of time that it is best when claiming not to be beholden to the lobby not to be represented by its legal fund [the Turkish American Legal Defense Fund], or the fund's chief counsel Bruce Fein.

In the course of the proceedings, Ms. Schmidt [who herself was twice censured earlier by the Commission for false statements pertaining to a made-up college degree] gave a deposition which is on the web. When asked foundational questions about thoughts she has actually had and things she has actually said, Schmidt came across like a 1950's mafia witness sweating before Estes Kefauver ["I don't know, I don't remember, Can you repeat the Question, I need to go to the bathroom"]

Read all avbout it on the brad blog.
