Equal Rights & Sugar Rushes

The Columbia City Bakery was swamped with equality-minded sugar junkies after Bethany mentioned on Slog last week that they were selling "Equality Cookies" to raise money for the "Vote to Approve Referendum 71" effort.

"The weekend was as busy here as the holidays," wrote Andrew Cleary in an email. "We can barely keep up and sold a couple hundred more than I expected."

Andrew sent over a box of the cookies to thank Bethany, and... um... I just ate four of 'em. (Because I'm anorexic—it's true! Commenters on Slog keep saying so!) Equality Cookies are delicious—they're frosted shortbread and they taste like Christmas—and they're $1.50 a pop with a buck going to Washington Families Standing Together. It would be nice to see this effort spread to other purveyors of fine & sugary food products all over town. Molly Moons? North Hill Bakery? Sugar? Cupcake Royale? Cafe Besalu? Dahlia Bakery? Shoofly Pies?

I predict the fat vote will become an increasingly large percentage in the U.S.

@1 well, with the obesity epidemic ever expanding, they certainly are taking a weightier role in national politics.

I would think a "loveschild" would be more like

1 part Scotch
1 part Captain Morgan's
1 part gin
1 part creme de menthe
1 part Galliano
1 part heavy cream
2 tablespoons cottage cheese

Shake, pour in dog bowl.
Garnish with seven olives and an Oreo cookie.

Fnarf,

Please don't ruin Scotch for me. Can't you subsitute the worm in the tequila for the lovely Scotch?

Baconcat, those are awesome. But now I think we need a coffee drink to go with the R-71 shortbread, too. Maybe something with a little Grand Marnier?

It would be especially nice if Cupcake Royale stepped up since they sell merchandise that satirizes gay marriage with cupcakes ("Legalize Gay Cupcakes," etc.).

@10: Oh, that sounds easy!

Official Approve R-71 Coffee Cocktail: 3-way Man Kiss
5 hershey kisses, melted*
Light Splash of Bailey's
Light Splash of Jim Beam
Light Splash of Jack Daniels
Cup of hot coffee

*Put kisses into metal bowl, rest bowl on top of pot of coffee for 2 minutes or until melted down, stir lightly and add to drink. BE CAREFUL: Very hot. Garnish drink with unmelted kiss.

Oh, and don't stand up too quickly when you drink it.
