Number of the Day: $30,000

Posted by on Tue, Sep 1, 2009 at 5:52 AM

(A) Exactly one fifth of what unions are prepared to spend to keep Joe Mallahan and Mike McGinn from becoming mayor.

(B) The amount of money Joe Mallahan contributed to his own campaign last Friday.

(C) The cost of intimidating potential write-in candidates.

(D) The proposed annual "fat tax" that will be levied on obese people if a public health care option is enacted, according to angry Tea Baggers.

(B) Joe Mallahan contributed $30,000 to his mayoral campaign on Friday, August 28 according to disclosure reports released last night. It brings his total amount of self-funding to $230,000 after spending $200,000 of his own money in the primary. A couple of weeks ago, Mallahan's spokesperson Charla Neuman told me that he had no intention of spending any "significant amount" more on his campaign. So either Mallahan changed his mind, or he doesn't think that $30,000 is a "significant amount."

McGinn: Yes we can .... maybe stop the tunnel and also you see bikes. Maverick.

Mallahan: Yes I can... buy my way into a position I'm woefully unprepared for.

Murray: Maybe I can... but I don't know, maybe, perhaps, could be or something.

I think Mallahan was probably lying about the money thing... unseemly to look like you are buying the election, especially when you essentially are buying the election.

One wonders how many people volunteer for Mike McGinn for free - and what if they asked10 friends to help out?

That would be worth a lot more than $30,000.

Even if it's free.
