David Miller, who recently failed to make it through the primary in his run for City Council position 8, told supporters today on his blog that he will spend the remainder of the election season working to pass R-71. He also, graciously, asked his supporters not to help him retire his campaign debt (which was more than $6,000 as of the latest C4 reporting period), and instead give to the R-71 cause.
Here is the heart of his plea:
On November 3, we again have an opportunity to do what is right but on a statewide scale. We have an opportunity to affirm the vote of our elected State Legislators and vote yes on Referendum 71. This legislation makes the union between two gay people legally equivalent to the union of a man and woman. This is a basic legal right whose time has come, and I urge you to join me in supporting it.I don’t want you to just mark your ballot “yes” and leave it at that. I want you to join me in the campaign. I want to work with you to make sure what happened in California with Prop 8 doesn’t happen in Washington. I want to work with you to create such a strong groundswell of support that we not only pass R71, we pass it big.
I've got a call into Miller to see just what his role will be with the Approve Referendum 71 campaign, and I'll post the update when I hear back.
