Good Bookstore News

Posted by on Tue, Sep 1, 2009 at 4:20 PM

We needed a good pick-me-up after the passing of Epilogue Books, and here, thanks to Slog tipper Rich, it is:

Dear Friends of Couth Buzzard Books

As many of you know, for more than 20 years Couth Buzzard Used Books served the Greenwood/Phinney Ridge neignborhood as an excellent used bookstore and community gathering place. We lost their lease last year and closed. But, the old Buzzard is rising like the Phoenix from the ashes. Now the New Couth Buzzard Books has teamed up with Espresso Buono Coffee and Cafe. We have secured a beautiful site right in downtown Greenwood at 8310 Greenwood Ave North. Scheduled opening November 1, with a wild weekend of celebration planned. Owners Theo Dzielak, Gerry Lovchik, and Penny Wight (Cafe visionary extraordinare) have a passion for creating community. We will be a trade used bookstore, cafe, community gathering place, and art gallery. Literary and Music events are planned. Please contact with any ideas on how you would like the new Buzzard to serve you and our community.

We are busy working on the space. Come on by and say hello. And, if you can volunteer to help. There are plenty of physical tasks. And, we'll be accepting book donations and books for trade after labor day this September. For more information contact...Penny Wight at penny[at]espressobuono.com.
Thanks,
Theo Dzielak, Gerry Lovchik and Penny Wight

I really enjoyed going to Couth Buzzard Books. They had a fine selection for a smallish bookstore, and this new incarnation, with the cafe and reinvigorated community involvement, looks even better than the original. This could be a happy ending after all. Thanks, Rich. You made my day.

One nice thing about moving into a new space is that it's clean, and the books will all be in order. Couth Buzzard was an OK shop, but man, there were a lot of random piles of crap everywhere. And twenty years of cat hair, UGH. Kill the cat, please. It's driving away a good third of your customer base. Why don't used bookstores understand this? No one is allergic to the absence of cats.
