Why on earth do we listen to actors talk about anything other than acting?

@2, Why do we get suckered to watch anything on Youtube from Fox News?

why do poor americans with no health care think that wealthy actors and tv personalities are ON THEIR SIDE in the health care debate?? these guys can purchase their own personal physicial outright. of course they don't think we need national health care! gah!

@5: I loved that quote: "People are happy with the health care they've got." OK, Voight, what about the millions without health care -- how happy are they? Asshat...

Cato the Younger Younger 7
Well the health care I have is fine, it's the insurance (or lack of) that is royally fucked up. That and the insurance death panels, let's not forget the insurance companies death panels in all of this. The fact that Cigna, Primera and the others are just looking for a reason to pull the plug on grandma since it's just not cost effective to keep her alive anymore.

Corporate Death Panels; that's what the Republicans support. Corporate run Death Panels.

Seriously, I thought he had died some time ago.

@8

Accusations of arrogance, to the point of insinuating that Obama has declared himself a god is not a critique of policy but a nasty character attack. Had Mr. Voight discussed cost, role of government, etc, then you'd be correct in complaining. But stating that Obama is seeking to destroy freedom because he thinks he's god isn't really about legislation.

@11 has it right. You want to talk to me about the merits of targeted reform vs. a public option vs. socialized medicine? Fine. We can have a conversation, and nobody will think it's "hatred." But, that's not what's happening in this interview, or in the town hall meetings.

Wow, rich old guy comes out against spending a dime of his tax dollars on the well-being of people with less money than him. Shocker.

At heart, these attacks on a public option boil down to "I got mine."

This guy says the government is taking over the auto industry- maybe if the auto industry was not so fucked off with corrupt CEOs they would not have been looking for the government to be their safety net. LAME.

the "great thinker" voight quotes seems to forget that the america so many fought and died for is largely a myth built on genocide, slavery and imperialism.

Jon Voight, Ben Stine, and Kelsey Grammar are the only Hollywood types worth listening to anymore. There was a time when Hollywood made pro-American movies. People like John Ford, John Wayne, Ronald Reagan, and Henry Fonda loved America. But then traitorous scum like Fonda's daughter sat on that gun turret pretending to shoot down our boys, and it all went to hell, and now the America haters are in power.

Voight is right. I have long predicted that there will be civil unrest as America's flirtation with Marxist Fascism becomes a reality. Hell, I'll come right out and say it - there will be a civil war. Freedom loving states will say enough of this and leave this disgusting union and try to salvage the dream of the founding fathers from the socialist pot smokers and homosexuals (like the usurper in the White House now - still no birth certificate).

A backlash is brewing that could render liberalism a sick artifact of the past in the 2010 and 2012 elections. That's precisely why I have doubts that they will be allowed to go forward. Look for the Obamaites to create a crisis that gives them the excuse to postpone those elections indefinitely, like Hitler did, and to silence his critics. Fox News may be gone forever. Talk radio may be gone forever, and I've posted before on how Obama wants to singlehandedly take over the internet. Then they'll come for your guns.

Well, that ursurper won't get my guns!!!

@22

That's sarcasm right?

To talk about the freedom lovers and then turn around and insult people for living freely? IE being homosexual or smoking pot. I mean, if you're going to discriminate than you don't love freedom. You only love yourself and your money and you cannot see beyond that.

Jon Voight's daughter at 15 was carving shit into her arm with a knife... Mike Huckabee's boy was hanging dogs from fucking trees. Seriously these ass-hats are telling us how to live our life/giving us political opinions and they can't even manage to raise their own kid's right.

@8, he doesn't disagree with proposed legislation - if he did, he wouldn't be claiming that Obama is telling us what cars we can drive (not true), nor that Obama's going to tell us what doctors we can see and what treatments we can have (not in any proposed legislation, anywhere). He disagrees with a phantom, but is attempting to impose his phantom solution on those of us who understand the word 'option', and is meanwhile casting Obama as an agent of socialism. AND, as an added bonus, seeking to ensure that those millions without adequate healthcare stay in exactly the same situation. This is hateful.

I thought the idea behind talking points was that you could rapid-fire them off without making it sound like you were confused or struggling. They kind of lose something coming all slow and creaky like that.

Civil Unrest???

Has Voight (sp) ever traveled outside the United States? Or even turned on the tube to see even the recent happenings in Iran after their "election" ?

Some of these folks arguing this idea about "civil unrest", the "sleeping giant", "tyranny", etc." really need to get some perspective on how other people are living/have lived around the world.

True things are bad here with US health care, but a couple rowdy, uniformed, misinformed (& don't want to be informed) people at town halls yelling at lawmakers and going on television to rally their troops does not equal civil unrest.

-Find another argument John.

Funniest thing about Bored Weasel's post is that icon of America Henry Fonda was a life-long staunch liberal democrat.
Posted by McGee on August 31, 2009 at 3:05 PM
Lord Basil 43
@42 - Yes he was, but he was a loyal American, too. When the Soviets began their drive to conquer the world after WWII, Fonda was behind his president - regardless of party or ideology - in his efforts to defend the country. You could say that about a lot of staunch liberals - Truman, JFK, William Fulbright, LBJ, etc.

Since the 1960's, the Democrat Party has become a party of pot smoking treasonous traitors who would glady surrender to anyone without firing a shot.

I yearn for the days when Democrats were loyal.

"why do poor americans with no health care think that wealthy actors and tv personalities are ON THEIR SIDE in the health care debate?? these guys can purchase their own personal physicial outright. of course they don't think we need national health care! gah!"

There's a reason why Republicans went for "The Secret" bigtime. If they fuck over the poors and minorities enough, that means that there's OBVIOUSLY going to be more opportunities for them, and they're not going to get fucked over just the same. And even if they do, at least the poors/minorities aren't doing better.

@43

It sounds to be me like you are doing exactly what it is that you are chastising the "pot smoking treasonous traitors" of doing ... ie not standing behind your president regardless of party or ideology ...

practice what you preach yo, why is it that the dems should ALWAYS stand behind their president regardless of party or ideology, but the repubs only have to stand behind republican presidents in order to be considered patriotic?
