You Got Pictures In My Words: Bayou

Posted by on Fri, Aug 28, 2009 at 12:20 PM

What's the book? Bayou: Volume 1 by Jeremy Love.

What's it about? It's the first published effort from DC Comics' digital arm, Zuda Comics. It's about living in the south and lynchings and a magical, um, African-American man who helps a young girl. It's like Swamp Thing for kids with a whole unsubtle racial subtext tacked on.

What's the art look like?

Do you recommend it? Not really. It's just not that well-written. I'll check in on future volumes of the book—as any comic book movie fan knows, the origin is the lamest part of the whole endeavor—but this is just a weird little funny-shaped book that tries too hard to be meaningful.

Gotta say--I've been looking at this online, and the artwork's sucking me in. The writing isn't exactly stellar, but the mood almost makes up for it.

Of course, I'm a dabbler, not a connoisseur.
