The True Partisan

Posted by on Thu, Aug 27, 2009 at 11:25 AM

Endorsements are rolling in now that a Democrat has emerged in the general-election race for King County Executive. Candidate Dow Constantine racked up key supporters this week, including endorsements from Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell; he also got the blessings of Democratic Congressmen Norm Dicks, Jay Inslee, Jim McDermott, and Adam Smith. It's an arsenal of Democratic support against a competitor who insists she's nonpartisan.

Republican Susan Hutchison has proudly repeated that she has backing from both Republicans and Democrats. The jewel in her Judith Leiber pill box: The endorsement of Democratic State Auditor Brian Sonntag. Of course, Sonntag is hardly a progressive Democrat. He spoke at a hyper-conservative tea party this spring and he has been chummy with conservative initiative profiteer Tim Eyman.

But that’s still bi-partisan support. Does Constantine have any Republican endorsements, I asked campaign spokesman Sandeep Kaushik? "We are going to be reaching out to elected officials across King County and our suburban cities and in Olympia," says Kaushik. But, he adds, “There aren’t a whole lot of Republican elected officials in King County."

Hm, okay, with such broad-based support, she should be more than happy to answer policy questions.

Can someone please explain to me why it's a good thing to be a member of the Democratic Party? Who wants to be in a party with the likes of Dianne Feinstein, Maria Cantwell, Fred Phelps (yes, he's run for Congress on the Democratic ticket), Max Baucus, and John Edwards? Seriously, when you're tent is that big, it blows away at the first breeze.

For more than 100 years, people have tried to reform the party from within. Guess what? Many wars, many riots, many elections, many broken promises later, it won't work. No matter how hard you try or how many times you try, you can never turn a dog turd into a pizza.

I can't bring my self to support a party whose president signs DOMA into law at the same time as he's cheating on his wife by getting his dick sucked in the Oval Office. I can't bring myself to be a member of a party that, until the 1960s, refused to allow black people to participate in his workings in the South and actually defended segregation. I can't bring myself to be a member of a party that has started most wars in the 20th century. And I can't bring myself to be a member of a party whose foundations began with the desire to secede from the US because the party defended slavery.

It will be interesting to see if Susan gets any support from Democratic electeds from King County. You know, the county she's running in.

There are four Republican members on the County Council. The County AG is a Republican. Will Kaushik be reaching out to them?

#5 - Congrats, you pierced the hispster mental armor that R's do not really exist 'round here, they do.

Do not make fun of Susan and her approach ... she is dangerous. Work you ass off for Dow and largely ignore her.

Get on his message, screw hers.

“There aren’t a whole lot of Republican elected officials in King County."

No shit. They're too busy keeping this city afloat by running businesses.

@7 Re Repubs in KC: "No shit. They're too busy keeping this city broke by ruining businesses."

There, fixed that for you.
