Too Soon?

Posted by on Wed, Aug 26, 2009 at 12:31 PM

In the hours and minutes after the announcement of Senator Edward Kennedy's death, Wikipedia's many writers scrapped to explain what it all means:

And two minutes later:

wiki_kennedy.jpg

Maybe this makes the case for that Wikipedia editor they've been talking about. I'm really not sure. But even without an editor, the sanity has prevailed—at least for now—in the current entry.

Wikivandalism isn't anything new. You had people redirecting New Orleans' article to the article for Waterworld during Katrina.

Lighten up. I love hacked entries. That's how I found out Uma Thurman was born with a penis.

@1 The Republicans? Most people here on Slog have been saying nasty things about him all day and they're certainly not all Republicans.

I went to Mary Jo Kopechne's entry last night and it said "Mary Jo Kopechne was murdered by Ted Kennedy" I refreshed it and it was gone.

You missed some good ones. Somebody got in there that OJ Simpson killed Ted Kennedy. Somebody else got in that his dad put him in child porn. Good times.

@2: hell, it's not even limited to politics- I remember stumbling across a Wikipedia article saying that Gigi Buffon "is considered by some deluded Italians to be the world's best goalkeeper" or something like that.

When Laura Bush dies will people be citing her committing vehicular homicide as a reason to be happy?

@10, that's right Laura Bush killed a guy?

Well, when that dried out wino finally dies I will celebrate that she will meet her maker who will tie her up on a spit (much like Julia Child did that chicken on her show) and then she will roast in hell!!

@11 - she only backed up over him twice to make sure he was dead.

She was never convicted of it.

Laura Bush ran a stop sign and killed her friend, but because her last name was Welch (her dad was the Paul Allen of Midland, TX), she got off scot free. The family of her friend never really acknowledged anything one way or the other but their silence and poor relationship with the Welch family thereafter is a pretty clear indication that they have a problem with her family's privilege being used as leverage in keeping Laura out of trouble.
