What Should Nickels Say?

Posted by on Fri, Aug 21, 2009 at 8:11 AM

Mayor Greg Nickels is holding a press conference at 10 a.m. this morning. He's still in third place in the primary, behind Joe Mallahan and Mike McGinn. But there's still tens of thousands of ballots to be tabulated and a new batch of numbers is coming at 4:30 p.m. today. What to do?

Run a poll, of course. As always, the result is legally binding.

What should Nickels say this morning?

I think he should declare the primary vote fraudulent and that a state of emergency exists in Seattle.

Heil Nickels!!

BTW, I bet Peter Steinbrueck is kicking himself in the ass right now. Had he run I bet he'd have hit the 50% mark in the primary.

Steinbrueck is a dilletante - he doesn't have the patience or cruelty to actually run shit.

Nickels is probably finished, but there's too many votes left to throw in the towel this morning.

If he does concede this morning or afternoon here's hoping he endorses McGinn as part of his concession speech.

I'm thinking he should either do the epic recitation of Jabberwocky that he's been wanting to perform all these years, or he should channel Nixon: "You won't have Nickels to kick around any more because, Gentlemen and Erica Barnett, this is my last press conference and it will be one in which I have welcomed the opportunity to test wits with you."

I hope his campaign staff never work in this town again. His re-election bid was truly amazing in its awfulness.

But yeah... at this point, if he comes from behind, they'll be accused of vote fixing. That's not quite a great start to a fall campaign.

i want him to encourage a write-in ballot.

this will lead to better debate leading up to the election, a more interesting election, and *most importantly* will siphon votes off mallahan for mcginn.

Why is it so important for some people that he concede right away? Is it just so the other candidates can start fund raising?
