Yesterday we saw one version of Isaiah M. Kalebu. Today we see a very different one:
In this video—from May 15, 2008—Kalebu is calm, respectful, and inquisitive. It's a far cry from the angry, belligerent, hectoring, and somewhat nonsensical Kalebu who appeared in Judge Brian Gain's courtroom a month previous and ended up getting sent to Western State Hospital for a mental competency evaluation.
It could be that Kalebu's month at Western State changed him. Or it could be that Kalebu saw an urgent need for a new approach because the last one didn't work very well. (Its major result: a report from a Western State psychologist saying Kalebu was not capable of rationally understanding the proceedings against him.)
Whatever the motivation, Kalebu's new approach failed too. Back to Western State he went, this time for two months of "competency treatment."
Monday: Competent!
