The Scent of Spite

Posted by on Thu, Aug 20, 2009 at 3:43 PM

Know what this exhibition still smells like?

Fire.

DSC02105-filtered.jpg

That's two works by Andrew Dadson: One in which he spraypainted a neighbor's bush and lawn black in a guerrillaish action-painter move, and the other a vase of white flowers in black ink that gradually gets sucked up until the petals are dyed (dead).

More on the eerily beautiful remains of the fire here.

Wait, really? He spraypainted his neighbor's bush and lawn black? Without permission? For any particular reason?

He'd have plenty of time to think up new art stunts from his hospital bed if he tried that on my lawn and shrubs. And I'm not really seeing the connection to action painting there. Oh, and we used to do that with carnations all the time for a punky goth treat. I didn't realize we were artifying.

THESE ARE ALL THINGS FNARF SAW IN SOUTH AMERICA WHEN HE WAS BACKPACKING WITH TWO BUDDHIST NUNS AND A JOURNALIST FOR THE BOSTON GLOBE. THEY SAW MANY THINGS AND HAD MANY ADVENTURES, BUT THE SYNTHESIS AND APOTHEOSIS OF THIS TRAVEL WAS THAT TRESPASSERS GET STITCHES AND BLACK FLOWRZ ARE GOTHY BUT NOT ARTY.

THIS HAS BEEN AN EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF FNARF.
