Seattle Sounders vs. New England Revolution Match Open Thread

Posted by on Thu, Aug 20, 2009 at 8:01 PM

• Just sat down to watch the Revolution score a goal. DAMN it! (The game's on ESPN2—channel 32 at my house—if you're looking for it.)

• Well, that was depressing.

Half way through, down one, and just the goalkeeping coach.

So I tuned in for the first time tonight....

There are digital advertisements 100 yards long tracing the perimeter of the field...I feel sorry for anybody "duped" in to being just another statistic in this entertainment business model.

then advertising for it even more, for free, on ur blog.

~~so progressive~~
WTF?I?

#8 Umm, have you seen a athletic event in the last 100 years?

@9 No shit. The point, in the business sense, of sports is to advertise products. Think of any sport, it doesn't matter what, they all exist at the whim of sponsors.

@8: Hey, remember how everyone agreed that you were a spiteful sack of trolly dog doo last time you posted a comment on Slog?

The accusations stand.

Dissenting opinion is so entirely spiteful to you, 11 et al. I know that you didn't come here to read facts like this, you came here to read things that confirm and agree with your bias. So forgive me with presenting the notion that there are hundreds of square feet of animated advertising dancing behind and all around the entire length of the field....bottles and labels of beer flowing across the entirety of your screen.

I am just completely distracted and perplexed by the fact that you can hardly focus on your "home team" while products dance like buttered popcorn before a movie behind the entirety of the field.

But never mind that. Your beloved new trendy sport is impervious to that. No, it is not a business venture between Paul Allen and Drew fucking Carey.

Am I a troll? Am I spiteful? Is criticism, alternative/skeptic approach, and blistering questioning to your held belief the new outcast and unwelcome?

bwahahaha. I must be guilty of ~~accusations~~.

Gat- Please seek help for your ADHD. We will support you in your quest.

@12 Well, would you prefer an animated billboard on the side of the field, or the game stopping every 5 minutes for commercials like baseball and American football? I can ignore the animated billboard much easier than loud Budweiser or get-you-hard-pills commercials.

Slake: would you address my points? Or is it easier to just frame me as somebody in need of help for attention deficit disorder, although I stay on topic throughout 12.

Why, again, is this ADHD to you? Oh right.

Accusations of incapacity is all the imagined ammunition you've got.

There were a bunch of things wrong with the Sounders tonight, but advertising hoardings aren't one of them.

We beat ourselves tonight. We scored their goal for them, we had our goal go off Freddy's head instead, and he missed a penalty. We played an extraordinary amount of volleyball in their six-yard box, but nothing went in. We missed Ljungberg. God, I hope he's OK; "disorientation and memory loss" are not good symptoms.

Keyboard Gunt: advertisements pay the bills. You can pretend not to understand that, but normal people do. Even your favorite show "Dogs Torn Apart By Threshing Machines" has advertisements.

Gat, your points are moronic. I'd rather debate a table. Go fill a slanket. I'm out.

I just got back from the game. Our forwards suck, especially Montero.

18: Barney Frank! This notion is so abstract that I may as well be calling you a Nazi!!I see what you did there.

Fnarf: My astonishment and disbelief was never expressed here as non-understanding.

Nice try though.

@20 You know, without advertising, you wouldn't have this free forum to wax idiotic, so you're welcome!

You don't know what those big words mean, do you, little one?

@19, you mean when we've got the ball in the six yard box, for minutes at a time, repeatedly landing right on our forwards' feet, that you'd like to see them score a goal occasionally? Yeah, me too.

One thing I don't get: why does everybody on our team play facing the wrong way? I understand we like those little give'n'go back'n'forth passes, but ALL THE TIME? I don't Ianni was facing forward for the whole match. I also don't much care for the too-long passes and the desperate, hopeless foot-waving a yard short of the ball by the intended recipients.

Teams that play the Sounders have to be handicapped with a Red Card before game play...otherwise it's not fair.

There was so much wrong with today... so much. Wrong.
For starters... nah, no "for starters". Can't start anywhere. I'm going to have nightmares about this.

@22: If Montero had been watching the ball, he wouldn't have taken a shot in the face to save one for the other side.

On the bright side, Fredy's childish yellow card will land him on the bench next game. Hoping to see more Le Toux and Nyassi.

Oh, and the officiating was even more awful than usual.

That ball Montero got in the face was karma for standing there. (Emphasis on standing)

@26, that is what they are called, sugarplum. I have no idea who Caroline Cheese is, but I imagine that's an insult. Let's see your contribution, then.
