Thinking About Buying an E-Book Reader?

This E-Book Reader Matrix is by far the best resource for potential e-reader buyers out there. It compares virtually every e-reader on the market by upload time, display size, and just about every other feature you'd ever need. I had no idea there were so many e-readers out there, or that there were so many differences between the readers.

Wow - a practical link from SLOG. Almost justifies my wasted time, overall......

I'll bookmark this and check back when the Plastic Logic comes out. Thanks.

The best eBook reader is an iPhone.

I love my PRS505 from Sony... the fact that I have 40 books with me at any one time is awesome.

Right now, I'm sticking with free. If my work insists I carry an electronic leash, at least I can have a few books to read on it.

I am participating in Infinite Summer (thank you, by the way). For the first time ever, I wish a had a Kindle*. BUT, it wouldn't actually work the way I want. What I want, and I won't be buying a reader until this happens, is if I buy a book in print format, to get rights to read it digitally as well.

*The iPhone is too small to be great for reading. I use it occasionally.

i consider myself relatively techy, but i was pretty uninterested in ebooks until i actually saw one and played with it in person. a friend brought a kindle over to a movie night and i poked around with it.
i hadn't anticipated liking it so much. i ended up buying one used on craigslist and am using it for infinite summer among other things. it turned out to be a lifesaver when i unexpectedly ended up in harborview for a week. i was in the ER alone for 10.5 hours and all i had was the kindle because my cellphone battery had died long ago. the battery in that thing lasts for a really really long time.

Paul, it is worth noting that the majority of the readers in that matrix are only available in markets outside the US.

I just can't read a whole book on the iPhone's itty-bitty screen. There's such a thing as over-miniaturization, and I prefer the Kindle's larger, less eye-strainy screen.
