concrete canoe building is a common practice in Engineering schools. The real issue is probably related to safety procedures not being followed.

Gosh, next you'll be tellin' me they're tryin' to make boats out of steel! It cain't be done!

@2 Hell, if it wasn't for the fact that it's such a soft metal, you could make a boat out of lead. It's all in the displacement.

Probably an avoidable fatality. FTA, "Kitamura was not wearing a life jacket."

We used to make concrete canoes at SFU and UBC all the time.

Slackers.

Didn't you have a Headline of the Year just yesterday?

Doesn't that supersede a Headline of the Day?

Why even bother with a Headline of the Day, when you've already declared a Headline of the Year?

It doesn't make sense.

Also, the Hood Canal, I-90, and 520 floating bridges are kept afloat by *concrete* pontoons.

Side note: I just found out that those are the 3 longest floating bridges in the world, all within 50 miles of each other.

Yes it sounds funny. I thought the same the first time I was on a concrete sailboat. Building boats out of steel makes just as much sense.

Most of the major colleges have concrete canoe teams in the US. I was on Nebraska's team, and it was automatic to wear life jackets. It's definitely tragic that Kitamura wasn't wearing a vest himself.

What? No.

Replace "Headline" with "Highest Tempurature" and send that letter in to a local news station, I'm sure they'd get a kick out of it.
