Posted by on Mon, Aug 17, 2009 at 4:15 PM

And why did this report make me laugh?

Forty percent of the messages on Twitter are "pointless babble" along the lines of "I am eating a sandwich now," according to a study conducted by a US market research firm.
What's funny about it? The researchers (and even the reporter) seem not have expected this more than evident finding. They seem so disappointed, so troubled. And what were the market researchers hoping to find? Something with a little more meat to it: "I am eating a sandwich at Subway now."

Who are these people with 60% pointful non-babble messages? I don't think I've seen even a single Twitter message that was worth a damn.

Ninety percent of Charles Mudede's posts on Slog are "pointless babble," according to a study conducted by me.

Only 40%? What was their method of gathering data?

Scientists do studies on things like ¨Do prayers make you heal faster¨ and ¨Do highschoolers use drugs.¨ And they write their pieces with a straight face everytime. I don´t need to read said study to know that the researchers do not reveal disappointment or surprise in their paper. They wrote it with a straight face and left it to...people like you to add the obvious ´DUH´

That's hilarious coming from a person who's blog posts are at least 40% pointless babble. The other 60% are just incomprehensible.

Science is the discipline of making the obvious, tedious.

Twitter is somehow more inane than Myspace and Facebook combined.

There was twitterish phenom in the '50s prevalent in junior high schools called "character books" in which was listed your best friend(s), your favorite color(s), the name of your cats and dogs - they were handmade in little loose-leaf notebooks, and you passed these around among your what-would-come-to-be-called facebook friends to fill in the little known non-essential facts about their lives. Somehow this pointless exercise has been transferred to this Age of Obliviousness and enjoys an undeserved cachet that underlines the fact that talking in your hand has become an addiction worse than meth. Hail to the flickering twitterer.
