If a Picture Says 1,000 Words, Here Are 4,000 Words About Hempfest—Plus, a Half Dozen Naked People

According to the photographer, that several-foot-long blunt was in fact full of marijuana—pounds and pounds of it. I didn't see that, but I did see the guy with the hookah pipe smoking whatever he was smoking in front of those cops. He smiled up at the cops and (as he recounted afterwards) said, "What can I do for you?" One of the cops said, "Nothing, what can we do for you?" He replied, "Nothing--you do things for me every day, considering my tax dollars pay your salary." And the cops chuckled and moved on. Elsewhere, people were eating pot cookies in front of cops, smoking bowls in front of cops, smoking joints in front of cops, etc.

The naked people promised in the headline? They're after the jump.

You know, it's always seemed a little...impractical to ride a bicycle without some kind of fabric between me and the seat. But maybe I don't know what I'm missing.

I actually think that these people should be arrested.

Mind you, I think the War on Drugs is terrible, and have spent a lot of time fighting it, and am looking for new ways to defeat it even as we speak.

But, that middle class white people generally get a pass on this while others are arrested more frequently is an injustice. My theory is that any law that the cops (and prosecutors) are allowed to selectively enforce introduces bias into the system.

Start arresting white people, and this law would be changed quickly.

Re: nude photo.

Yeah, that's about right for the ratio of males to females in Seattle.

Although, probably you'd have to have another 90 dudes line up in front of the chick to simulate the average singles bar around town.

And the quest to get pot legalized takes a 20 year step backwards.

The only thing standing in the way of getting pot legalized, is the people who want to get pot legalized.

Reality Check 26
And no mention of the fucks that left their poor pet locked in the car down the street, while the pet owner got stoned at the Festival. The poor dog ended up dying, even after the cops busted out the car window, as the dog frantically scratched the inside of the car door upholstery. The dog suffered massive convulsions and puked several times inside the smoldering hot vehicle, as it's insides slowly fried.

Gosh what a good image the public must have of the attendees after listening to the news article describing the above.

Fucking moron.

Your exactly right - people smoking pot in public most certainly obscure the issue of free access no penalty pot smoking in public.

Sure, sure, Your media and strategy brain need a some toking, or at least some raised thinking.

Join the Domenic school of political organizing , insult, insult and insult. Builds unity to work the issue.

Just think how persuasive this crowd of YOUNG people, THE POLTICAL FUTURE, how political strong they would have looked in cheap suit and tie, and cocktail dress grab from the GAP.

Next, an all naked event, the next step in the movement to legalize

God forbid, Domenic and Forks would explode into small quivering pieces.

@24 -- what are you talking about? Down here in Olympia, there seem to be way way more women than men. Did all the men move to Seattle or something? Or did they all just go up there for Hempfest and stay?

Hmmm. I sorta think that your response to my comment makes my point.

There's nothing wrong with hippies, but they're not representative of the overall goal to legalize pot. Actually, they're representative of the overall goal to NOT legalize pot.

Remember pot smokers... most of the people who hold real power in this country have probably never worn a tie-dye shirt. Ever. They may sympathize, and that's good, but they still don't want to be one of you.

Women will show up more on these naked rides when the ride is deemed safe for them to participate. That is a big hurdle for many women. Solstice Cyclists around since 1992. There male/female ratio is better balanced after years of establishing themselves and riding through legal and cultural acceptance hurdles

#29 - Please engage reptilian brain.

There is not a hippie in sight in these mega crowds pressed together crowds. The are as mainstream as Seafair, but, MUCH younger. They are the future of every movement of the political future, and not trying to be racist, but, the children of the white power in place middle class.

The did not turn out to stop war, nor to vote Democratic. They went to a pro pot rally, party, good time free speech Seattle style event.

Domenic hs decided to control Hempfest from the bully plupit of the press. Yet his moaning and insults have no grounds in reality at all. All he has done is attract the whiners and grouchers on Slog. Makes him feel good maybe, but it is a total crock of shit.

Look at the pictures, most radical old time things are chic looking high fashion head bands. And TONS, thousand of main stream youth.

How fearful is that? And frankly, you have no point, you are just following blindly. A flim flam idea pops up and you are, me too, me too.

Maybe you can help the Stranger to a pro pot political rally, street rally, right in front of their offices with a dress code and no body toking. Oh sure.

You all are really confused - and just like to whine about some one.

I spent both Sat. and Sun. in political meetings. And I asked several times a t each meeting if anyone knew a hippie. Not one, none. Even the socialists were wondering why I was searching for a hippie. Hippie menace is in Domenic/Dan co joined mind. And it exists now where else.

@ 26 Nice to know so many considerate politically concerned potheads love their pets as much as the rest of us do.

http://www.komonews.com/news/local/53412…

You know, I drove down from Shoreline Sunday at 11, parked by Westlake, WALKED to hempfest (and I was seriously overdressed), had NO pot on me, was pist and frustrated from my walk to meet my buddies, who had beat me down there- only to get turned away. Because I had my dog. I was pist. I called my buddies and told them I couldn't make it. Went to a buddy/dealer's house in West Seattle, and then took a blunt and my dog down to Alki and enjoyed time with my dog. Not as exciting as hempfest, but just as fun. I wish I would have walked by the car w/ the dying pit, I would have broke him free. How sad, the KOMO article brought tears to my eyes.

@32: Actually, more women will show up at nudist events when the nudist leadership takes a stance against sexual harassment at nudist events. Local nudist leaders Mark Storey, Daniel Johnson and Howard Williams tend to run off the women who have concerns about sexualized behavior at "non-sexual nudism venues". Meanwhile, Storey and Co. embrace Shannon Kringen, who finds it appropriate at a nudist event to rub her bare genitals against a man's bare genitals, with children looking on. THAT is why women are staying away.

#38. This is Daniel Johnson, I want to know more about your claims of sexual harassment. Can you please call me ASAP re: specific incidents you are mentioning above?

I'm not associated with "nudist" venues or "nudist leadership" but I want to look into what you are talking about. I have heard about some concerns you are mentioning here but I need details, when where, who did what, what the response was, et cetera. 206 369 2661.

BTW, I can't take responsibility for activities that happen at places I don't even go to or associate with, but perhaps I can try to contact people who may be involved. In a case of sexual harassment you may also get good results by calling police directly and confronting the person who is causing the problem in the first place, if its possible.

@35: Dumb-asses like you who insist on taking your dogs to crowded events are so self-absorbed it's not even funny. At Folklife I saw THREE different dog altercations, despite Folklife's requests to leave dogs at home. What makes you think you're so special that your dog is the exception to the request?

@ 18. I agree that the sentencing is a disparity...there is a huge disparity in the prison population, and this goes back to the privatization of prisons 5 years after we ratified the 13th amendment--back to 1870...Hempfest is not a big white hippy pot party...people from all over from a wide range of backgrounds come....many of them fighting the drug war simply because it supports government sponsored slavery. It is not that they should arrest us for doing this...it is that they should quit arresting people and allowing corporations to use them for profit the way they do. If I am fighting for the rights of everyone...why should I be punished...it is seriously not my fault i was born with white skin in a world where others before me have done wrong...the people who should be in jail are the ones who have benefited from the use of prison labor....not those of us willing to give our lives (literally) in order to end the insanity.
