Your Daily Poll Dance: 2009 Hempfest Edition

Posted by on Fri, Aug 14, 2009 at 9:45 AM

key_art_reefer_madness.jpg

This weekend brings Hempfest, the world's largest annual gathering of hemp advocates, marijuana-decriminalization activists, and potheads that will take over three Seattle waterfront parks (Myrtle Edwards Park, Elliott Bay Park, and the Olympic Sculpture Park) both Saturday and Sunday. In advance of the grassy bash, I ask:

What is your relationship to marijuana?

Stay tuned for supplementary Hempfest polls throughout the day (if you can remember, you fucking stoner.)

I don't smoke pot, never have, and don't really care if others do. However, some pot smokers I know are pretty useless when they smoke, and they smoke a lot. So, some pot smokers, just like some drinkers, probably shouldn't smoke so they can grow up and be productive.

Where's the option, "I don't smoke pot, but I don't mind if others do."?

ONE QUARTER of you are mooches? really?

my sister used to say you're "down with OPP" - other people's pot.

Hmm...that's fewer frequent tokers than I would've guessed.

I'm badly allergic to hemp, but I'm all for others smoking if they feel inclined. Just not near me.

In this era of enhanced education and concern about health - it does not surprise me tons of people, like myself, neither smoke anything, or drink aside a casual beer every few months.

2009 not 1979 - changed in many ways.

And pot is expensive. And it smells like burning dog shit. (or rope)

One of the reasons I don't smoke pot is the same reason I used to not have an Xbox. Divorce is expensive. And I can't exactly claim "it's for the kids", unlike the Xbox.

Where's the "I hate pot because of my stoner ex-roommates"?

I think pot makes you lazy and stupid, but I recognize that my evidence is anecdotal.

At first the 28% Mooch factor surprised me until I remembered that the wort side effect of pot for productive users is the number of useless people who end up on your couch and stay for 3 months.

People need to realize that weed is money and stop mooching so much. Also "never having bought weed" is not some mark of coolness.

I respectfully refuse to answer that question on the grounds that might possibly violate my fifth amendment rights against self-incrimination.

I think people are overreacting to the "mooch" factor. In my experience, plenty of people are willing and eager to share a little weed with their friends, especially if it's a pass-the-bowl-around-the-circle affair. If you went over to a friend's house and he offered you a beer, would you feel like a terrible mooch?

I'm with Asa at 16. The question says, "When someone offers it...," and I love being around when one of my non-stoney friends is struck by the "maybe I'll smoke some pot!" mood...

I was looking for the answer that said: I don't smoke it now, but I used to live in the pot growing capital of North America and currently hold investments in companies which profit from it legally.

Hmm, not there.

Where's "I no longer smoke pot because some asshole decided it was somehow worse than alcohol and made it illegal 80 years ago and to keep my job (not a government job) the government forces us to submit to random drug testing" option?

So, if the US Constitution and the Declaration of Independence were done up on Hemp, does that mean we can smoke them?

And was George Washington a bigger pothead than Jefferson, or was Jefferson too busy getting it on with his slaves?

(darn, too much extra hemp in my hemp soy milk latte)

as far as mooching goes, at least in my case, it happens maybe twice a year, and i take two tiny hits and i'm good. i think a lot of people all in the same category here. it's not like i'm chasing my friends around for weed every week or even every month or ever. when a friend offers and i'm in the mood which is almost never, i will partake.

dude, you can be productive when you smoke pot. sure most people are lazy on it, but it's life man. we're all just really potheads deep inside anyways, i mean just look at the people of america man; we're all lazy as it is. we use remotes and waste gas to drive to the conviniant store right down the street. pretty sad if you ask me. respect mother nature since she's been so kind to us. sit back, close your eyes, and light up that joint. peace.
