Dwight Pelz, chair of the state Democratic party, points out that that as of today it's pretty much just Republican Congressman Dave Reichert who's saying no to holding public meetings on health care reform in Washington State.
From a press release Pelz just sent out:
After 3,000 people turned out in Everett for Congressman Rick Larsen’s Town Hall, and while other Members of Congress across our state and across the country are meeting with their constituents to discuss health care, Congressman Dave Reichert has not scheduled one in-person Town Hall with voters from the 8th Congressional District“Why is Congressman Reichert hiding from his constituents?” asked Dwight Pelz, Chair of the Washington State Democratic Party. “Voters across the 8th Congressional District are seeking answers from Congressman Reichert about why he has no plan to fix health care or the economy.”
Jim McDermott and Norm Dicks are meeting with constituents to discuss health care. Rick Larsen has held two Town Halls, Brian Baird has scheduled four, Jay Inslee two, and Cathy McMorris Rodgers three Town Halls.
“Can't Reichert’s staff find a high school gym somewhere in the District?” asked Pelz.
Confidential to Pelz: there is one Democrat who you could be asking the same question. Senator Maria Cantwell currently has no public health care events scheduled for the August recess.
