Dear Mike McGinn

Posted by on Fri, Aug 14, 2009 at 10:58 AM

"How do you plan on dealing with overcrowded buses?"

"What will a surface-oriented transit option bring to the table that the tunnel does not?"

"Do you favor the Legalization and Taxation of cannabis?"

Those are the top three questions that readers have posed to mayoral candidate Mike McGinn in the newly discovered Electionland. Today is our trial run, and McGinn will answer these and other questions from noon to 2 p.m.

McGinn will answer as many of them as he can—and you can even ask additional questions right now—but he probably can't get to all of them. So you can go over and vote on the questions you want to see answered most. Like, if you think asking about bus service (which is run by the county, not the city) is lame, vote it down. If you want more details about McGinn's plan to scrap the tunnel, give that questions a thumbs up.

Americans! This is the exploratory foray into the uncharted territory of Electionland. Soon we will live there and raise pioneer babies. You can be Meriwether Lewis and I'll be William Clark, and, by the general election, we'll have candidates from every race take a chance in the hot seat, answering your questions and fighting grizzly bears with their bare hands.

I like how many times you're getting McGinn's name all over Slog during the primary countdown. You crafty endorsers, you.

FACT - there is NO way he can scrap the tunnel. It is a state HIWAY, and if required the State can get big back up from the Supreme Court .... eminent domain is the pass word for the State.

He is appealing to the gullible and stupid. The plan was approved by the legislature, singed and sealed into law.

DONE deal, and he knows it. Old news, history.

And at this point makes him a hero to some, but, he is just grandstanding on thin air.

The rest of the state would love a showdown and watch Seattle be backed down by the Supreme Court working with a Gov. with her legal staff and the DOT.

Course, the Stranger staff is going to lay in front of the dozers and trucks..... and go to jail.

@3 - lol, you haven't been in this city, county, and state very long, have you?

We've scrapped tons of things before.

Do it all the time, usually after a revote.

Is there a better way to see McGinn's answers than refreshing this page?

@3 -- Yeah, I bet the rest of the state is super excited about watching the legislature pay billions of dollars for a highway in Seattle. that'll show those liberal Seattlites! We'll bury them in our tax dollars, those bastards!

And btw, the State can't legally designate an alternative until the EIS is done. All the legislature did was set aside some preliminary money by signing a piece of paper. If public opinion shifts against the tunnel, they can sign another piece of paper re-allocating that money. It's not that complicated. Not nearly as complicated as digging a two mile tunnel under a city who's mayor and residents don't want it to be built, for example.

How come nobody asked any questions about grizzly bears?

#4 and #6

All fools know the viaduct is a seismic hazard - it must be replaced. The DOT could call it an emergency to help end the debate ...

Even non Seattle people get that. There will be no revote from the legislature. They are building at both ends, getting ready for the tunnel. Expect fed. money for the tunnel at some point .. and more $$$ from the Port. .... and maybe a giant taxing district, voted by property owners in the area, to help pay the bonds.

Dream scape is in the air for many Mc Ginn supporters. - won't play. ... I stand by my post.

So, @9, you're saying you're scared of grizzly bears?

Why, aren't they cuddly enough for you, or is it just American grizzly bears you hate?
