Ask Mike McGinn Anything*

Posted by Dominic Holden on Thu, Aug 13, 2009 at 2:46 PM

We have a new toy for you:

Electionland.jpg

We want you to know as much as possible about candidates. So tomorrow we'll be taking a test drive through in Electionland, where you can stick questions directly to candidates. No media middleman (or middlewoman), just you and the person who wants your vote. Between the primary next week and the general election in November, we'll be bringing in candidates from every race for you to badger with questions.

We'll start with Mike McGinn, who we endorsed for mayor. He'll be answering as many questions as possible from noon to 2 p.m. tomorrow. But you can begin asking questions now. Don't have one? You can rate the questions people have already asked—and the most popular questions will be most likely to get answered. You can also rate McGinn's answers—like, did he nail the question (thumbs up) or did he dodge it (thumbs down)? Or comment on the answer.

How it works: Your ticket to Electionland is the same login you use for Questionland (not to be confused with this place). You can also use your Facebook login. The McGinn page, where you can begin asking questions right now, is here.

* Well, not anything. Deliberately offensive questions—and questions that aren't actually questions—will be deleted.

You seriously believe that all of the candidates will answer questions unaided? Is Mike McGinn going to take two hours out of his campaign schedule and sit down to to type out answers for a bunch of people who don't vote?

I am skeptical. Cool idea, though.

Hopefully you will fill the slog with a bunch of comment-free posts inviting us over to electionland. Sweet.

@1 - seems to me there's an awful lot of election-related blah-blah-blahing on slog (in posts and comments) for being done by a bunch of non-voters...

How long until WiS asks something about 100 story apartment buildings?

@4 - actually, that didn't even begin to speculate about crossing my mind, but feel free to do that. P.S.: Renton's going to keep getting more and more crowded.

How do you feel Seattle's atmosphere and environment -- especially in matters of transportation -- will be affected by the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver B.C.?

Native Japanese speakers have a difficult time pronouncing words with the letter L because no such sound exists in their alphabet. The most common replacement is substituting L sounds with the letter R.

Dear Mr. McGinn: How can you ride a bike and still be so flabby, do you just ride down hills and get driven back up by your wife? Looking at your sadass gut, I think you are the only real competition for Mayor McCheese and all of us at the donut shop are pulling for you.
