Youth Pastor Watch

Posted by on Wed, Aug 12, 2009 at 11:18 AM

Kentucky:

A Nelson County grand jury has indicted a youth minister with manslaughter, wanton endangerment, and unlawful transaction with a minor. The charges against Ronald Derek Coulter come in the death of 13-year-old James Mitchell. On June 24, WAVE 3 reported that Coulter allegedly allowed Mitchell to drive the SUV the two were in when it crashed during an overnight youth outing on June 6. Police say Coulter, the youth minister of Big Springs Assembly of God Church in Bloomfield, originally told them and the family that he was the driver and a deer caused him to swerve.

Tennessee:

Allegations that a former youth minister embezzled $73,000 from a Shelbyville church will be presented to the Bedford County grand jury next Monday, according to a Shelbyville police detective. Charles Lohn, the former youth minister at Shelbyville Mills Baptist Church, was brought in for questioning "concerning his involvement in the embezzlement of approximately $73,000 from the church," Detective Sgt. Brian Crews said..

California:

A Yuba City man convicted of assault with an Uzi pistol at the Allyn Scott Youth and Community Center in Marysville testified Monday that the gun went off when he was grabbed from behind. Alexander Ray Warren, 24, was scheduled to be sentenced in Yuba County Superior Court for the March 2008 shooting that wounded three people.... Warren wrote in a letter to the court that he "gave his life to the Lord" while in jail after the shooting and feels a calling to be a youth pastor.

Regarding the Shelbyville, TN, youth pastor, I'm glad to see that he did the honorable thing by resigning. I'm sure living with having embezzled from his own church was a terrible burden, although I'm equally sure having an extra $73,000 in his pocket helped ease that burden somewhat.

Anyone who lives in Springfield knows that those people over in Shelbyville can't be trusted. Abe Simpson even says that they like to marry their cousins!

Well, at least this time the youth pastor from TN was only embezzling. I just moved down here in May, and I've noticed a remarkable number of these watches come from my new state. I'm trying to remember if there's been one of these that didn't have something from TN or KY or both...
