The Economic Downturn Is Being Felt Everywhere

Posted by on Wed, Aug 12, 2009 at 9:34 AM

Even at Hate, Inc.

A "serious budget shortfall" at Focus on the Family has prompted the conservative Christian group to issue a special fundraising plea, and contributed to a decision to cede control of its contentious "Love Won Out" conferences about homosexuality to another religious organization, a spokesman said Tuesday. Focus on the Family, founded by child psychologist James Dobson, is on pace to fall $6 million short of a $138 million budget for the fiscal year that began last October, spokesman Gary Schneeberger said.

Hm... Focus on the Family unloading "Love Won Out"? The timing of that move is a little suspicious. You may recall that the head of Exodus International, the group that FOF is tossing "Love Won Out" to, recently admitted that—after 20 years of trying—he's still not straight.

I saw that headline and was filled with happiness. I know, I'm a bad person.

Clearly, FOTF is a wasteful, bureacratic organization that needs fresh leadership to trim the fat, as evidenced by their growing budgetary shortfall. The real solution is the free market: the non-profit they use is a government subsidized model, in that it receives numerous tax breaks. The various functions of the organization should abandon thsi socialistic model and privatize itself as a for profit venture. If it can't survive, then it is proof that there is no real demand in the marketplace for their stupid, stupid, ideas.

$6 million is 4% short.
How are revenues at The Stranger holding up, Dan?
Smug isn't a very flattering color.
Branding anyone who disagrees with you a hater is a convenient way to avoid discussing actual issues.
Liberals love to do that.

Yes, Urgutha, it's total schadenfreude. Which didn't stop me from e-mailing the story to Dan. I hope the fuckers end up on a diet of beans and rice for a while.

Love this quote from Mr. Chambers:

"I’m not in denial of the temptations that I could still experience. I am denying the power that sin has over me."

Soooooo...homosexuality is sin, per Mr. Chambers. As does Christian doctrine, he buys into the same anti-human, anti-hedonistic notion that Original Sin is the base of all the world's woes.

Look here and fear, folks.

Hmmm - I like how "Love Won Out" fits the support of equal marriage, too.

Don't you have some sorta liberal denomination who can go undercover and snap up that outfit?

After all, they'd be lying for Jesus, and as all fundies know, that's okay.

@9: Hiring reporters? Why mess with success?

Imagine what $138Million worth of Love could do for Homelessness, Skills Training, Child Care, Addiction Counseling, and because it's so topical Health Care - lol.

Instead it's used for a lot of hate. And these people call themselves Christians.

I think you should have your own 'Love One Out', about accepting open homosexuals.
