Welcoming the Pornpocalypse

Posted by on Tue, Aug 11, 2009 at 11:19 AM

Violet Blue on the story in the LA Times yesterday about the troubled porn industry:

What the fuck are we going to do if the porn "industry" dries up and its weak business model collapses because the distribution model was so arrogantly short-sighted and careless about who its viewers are and what they really want to see? Imagine a world where you can’t go to Joe’s Jack Shack and buy a product for $50 that you know you’ll like some of, or an overly expensive rental that you know you’ll like one scene from because it’s packed with the same old shit to wank to—and that’s your only choice? I can’t imagine this world. With… what? Different standards of beauty and sexual expression? It’s like, a pornpocalypse.

Praise the lube and pass the ammunition.

I haven't rented a gay porn or bought one since I started the VOD via the Adam4adam.com website. HUGE selection of gay porn, just pay a fee for a certian number of minutes or hours and wack away!! Don't like the video just pick another one right from your computer!!

One of the few things that makes America great!!

Hah. Ha ha. Hahahahaha.

Indeed. Where would the world be?

God bless porn; always on the forefront of technology. Now if only the rest of the entertainment industry would catch up...

It's just like the newspaper business. Papers are dying everywhere because they insist that people pay for what can be gotten for free, and with much less inconvenience and commercial content.

Survival tip: if your business model doesn't make money, change the business model instead of making content even less convenience (DVD copy protection) or more expensive (higher paper prices and less news content).

All I know is they try to hide the straight actors, who I love, both in the films (hide as much of their bodies as possible) and from answering fan mail. If I'm a fan and I write a letter, can't you take the time to be a little friendly and e-mail back? I pay your bills so don't hide.

Porn is just wonderful... but it's pretty much been done. Hang on until the next technology wave.... VHS.. DVD... Blu-Ray... Whatever....

Fortunately this is a medium where I feel the amateurs are often as good as, or better, than the professionals. Many of the best pornos one can find online were made for the fun of it.

VB's response seems exactly like what I read from people at the edges of the music industry back in the day (2003?) when online music theft really started in earnest. 'Ha, screw the old rich guys, this new day will free us all from the shackles.' Blah, blah, blah.

Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose.

In the LAT piece the porn actress they interview says she has her own self-produced site and is going on tour to dance in clubs and make money that way. All that sounds so much like the music world. Bands thinking that their little site will generate a livable income - when any content they post is stripped off to some free outlet within a day of it arrive online. The last refuge is the one thing that cannot be digitized - the performer's physical presence.

There will always be people making music and porn - even if they are not getting paid. That isn't necessarily terrible, but I think we are quickly losing the chance to even choose to consume professionally made stuff.

Any pornpocalypse that cuts down the global exposure of the unbearable Violet Blue is fine by me.

People buy porn DVDs? People under 60?

And the reasons are pretty obvious.

The physical difficulties of being a porn performer aside, I can't say I'm going to weep over professional pornographers losing income. Oh well. Back to waitering for you.

most amateurs don't have the skill set of a Flower Tucci.

X-Tube is free. People actually still pay for pornography?

From the LATimes article;

"Nowadays some of the top-tier models will do that scene for us and you're looking at maybe $1,800. I'm happy for the production, but I FEEL BAD FOR EXPLOITING THE GIRLS' SITUATION."

That last sentence should be in bold but I don't know how to do it so I've put it in caps.

no sympathy for professional pornography here. it's as bland as anything pop. here's to the public making home-made porn, which is usually more interesting and less demeaning to the actors. who knows, maybe future amateur porn "stars" will be able to find jobs in industries that would assign harsh stigmas upon them today. just cause you like to fuck on camera doesn't meant you can't be wise enough to save yr money instead of wasting it on fancy shit cars and a party lifestyle.

It seems to me that "aporncalypse" would be a better neologism. Just sayin.
