A Preview?

Posted by on Tue, Aug 11, 2009 at 9:36 AM

In about a half hour, President Obama will hold a town hall meeting on health care reform in New Hampshire. Because, you know, town hall meetings have been going so well for Democrats lately.

The president is prepared for disruptions, says his spokesman. Which is good. Because if Obama's town hall meeting looks anything like this video—from Senator Arlen Specter's own town hall meeting this morning—it's going to be a very bad day for health care reform.

Who was it that had to do a mea culpa because he called us a nation of whiners?
That guy should be pretty smug by now.

Why arent they prepared to counter their retarded claims? Its not like they don't know what they will be. I'm confident that Obama will be better prepared to handle these dumbasses.

Is it just me, or does Specter sound like that teacher on South Park. "Okay. Okay. Okay?"

Why aren't they better prepared? Newsflash: Your Senators and members of Congress are bought and paid for by the Health Care Industry which don't want real reform.

If they were serious, we'd have single payer universal health care. But they're not serious, not serious at all. So expect a watery bill that will leave millions uninsured with the "promise" if the the Democrats only had 75 seats in the US Senate they could get more reform....

@7:

I don't dispute that may be at least one factor, but the simple reality - as anyone who's spent anytime on SLOG should be well aware - is that it's next to impossible to have any sort of intelligent, constructive dialog with a person who only wants to yell and scream and who isn't in the least bit interested in hearing your side of the argument. That's what these "tea-baggers" or whomever they are are doing: shouting down anyone who attempts to utter anything that might provide the rest of the audience with any legitimate information or argument in favor of reform that might actually allow them to make up their own minds on the issue.

They're bullies, pure-and-simple, and so far as I'm concerned, they should be treated as such.

The good side of this coin is that politicians are now on notice that people won't roll over and play nice anymore, even if they are miss-guided, ignorant, religious bigots and cowards. As Specter said, " a demonstration of democracy". Let's hope more Americans become more involved in what's going on. Up until now the majority of Americans could not be bothered to care. And let's hope that progressive future thinking Americans get involved instead of just throwing up their hands and walking away in disgust, while the Right wing backward thinkers show up to the meetings.

@10- Sadly, it's only the misguided ignorant religious bigots who don't play nice anymore. Everyone else is just staring at them in shock thinking "The brownshirts aren't really taking over, are they?"
