Prosecutor Chides Local Republican Group

Posted by on Wed, Aug 5, 2009 at 5:38 PM

Last night, the 46th Legislative District Republicans issued voting recommendations for candidates in the primary election, and among their picks was city council hopeful Jessie Israel. (I posted about the group's endorsements here.) They gave Israel the blessing because “she has Republican friends, has spoken at the 43rd Republican meeting and she's endorsed by Dan Satterberg,” the email said.

In fact, Republican King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg did no such thing.

“Unless he has been longtime friend, he doesn't endorse in any race,” says Ian Goodhew, a spokesman for King County Prosecutor’s Office, who called The Stranger this afternoon. “He was particularly chagrined to find out that someone was reporting that he made an endorsement in the Israel race. He did not endorse anybody in that race.”

An email to the group has not been returned. However, someone claiming to be a member of the group, Lisa Bailey, in Slog comments (probably her) apologizes for the “misinformation.” The commenter also notes that the group was not issuing “endorsements,” but rather that they were "recommendations for the best candidate,” she writes. Call them what you will. It would be a terrible if someone went around using the "e" word inaccurately.

I'll be using their recommendations as a checklist of who not to vote for.

Gracias muy mucho, douchebags.

Good thing I voted for Nick Licata, who got the sole endorsement from both the 43rd Dems www.43rddems.org and from the King County Dems www.kcdems.org ...

The real question is where the Republicans came up with that idea. I hope it wasn't from Israel's campaign.

#Trevor, you hope that the Israel campaign didn't ASK the 46th district Republican's to what? Endorse her? provide misinformation about Satterberg? That's just dumb.

the 46th district republicans said they endorsed Israel because of satterberg and because she spoke at a 43rd district republican meeting. who knew there was a republican district organization in the 43rd of all places.

@6: Sorry you seem to not understand what I thought was plain English. Here is my question put another way: Did Jessie Israel lie to Republicans and tell them that Satterberg had endorsed her when he actually had not? If not, why did they believe that?

Trevor, it wouldn't have happened. Period.
