Re: Police Rescue Puppy From Hot Garbage Can

Posted by on Tue, Aug 4, 2009 at 1:18 PM

That cute widdle puppy Seattle police rescued from a hot garbage can in Belltown last week? It was a pitbull.

According to Seattle Animal Shelter Animal Care Supervisor Virginia Dalton, last week, the dog's owner—who is homeless—paid someone in Ballard to take care of his dog while he went to an appointment. However, the person the man left his dog with took it to Belltown and left it in a dumpster.

Dalton says the dog's owner paid $100 to get his now-neutered-and-microchipped dog back.

Good thing it wasn't on a Marine base.

If I had $100 to get my dog back from the pound, I wouldn't be homeless. Just sayin.

Maybe he's the Ballard fisherman kind of homeless... where they live on the ship for long stretches, and then out of a camper? I don't think I'd let a puppy go "home" to that, though.

If that's the puppy pictured, that is no pit bull. Looks like perhaps a Beagle-mix.

I thought that the animal shelter wasn't supposed to release animals to people if they could not properly care for them. And I think you have to have a roof over your head to properly care for a pet.

It's neutered! Yay! That means it won't be reproducing or (probably) hyper-violent! So we can all stay calm, and not freak out about pit bulls!

@6 Don't be naive.

It's common knowledge that, in times of limited resources, pit-bulls reproduce by fission.

@ 4, that's just a puppy picture they found for this post. It's not the puppy in question.

They should have shot the dog.

told ya!

next time you kids want to give change to a homeless person, make sure they intend to spend it on booze, food, or drugs... not on Dan Savage Pit Bull Daycare.

If we're not allowed to put future baby-killers in a hot trash can, then what CAN we do with them?

If they have Cash for Clunkers, why can't we have Payout for Pitbulls?

Well, if that be the case, I find it to be very misleading reporting. One of the many reasons why breed specific legislation does not make the public any safer is due to the fact that the general public cannot even identify a pit bull. I guess The Stranger can't either.

Pit bulls ARE cute widdle puppies, Spangle Dangle, and I'm just sick about what happened to this one.

I respect SAS (got my lab and 1 pittie there)but am concerned and surprised they relinquished the dog to this "owner" after what happened.

It's a pit bull! Kill it! Kill it!

Ok, pit bull puppies are adorable. Let's wait a little while, and then kill it.

Word is that Mayor McCheese is going to use the pit bull puppies to build a plastic-bag lined tunnel under Seattle to his mansion.

@ 16,

They're probably overloaded with "foreclosure" pets and are not going to be as picky as they were about adoptions. If this person has something like a camper or boat, they don't really fall into the category of homeless (cardboard box under a bridge). They had a $100 to bail the doggy out of jail, they can't be that impoverished.

They weren't at the site, and it wasn't in the report. What the hell do you want them to do, hire the broadway psychic to remote view the scene of every blog entry?

How very sad. Imagine someone that you trust to take care of your beloved pet putting it in a dumpster instead. I hope that there is some sort of prosecution in the works. Is there any way that we could donate to the dog owner? I imagine that $100 was a difficult blow to their financial stability.
