Phillips's Future Is So Bright He's Got to Wear Shades

Posted by on Tue, Aug 4, 2009 at 2:04 PM

King County Executive candidate Larry Phillips has released the, um, rockin'-est television ad in the race. It's also the drinkiest. Says Phillips, "We make the best wines in the worlds and our beer is pretty good, too."

This is by far the weirdest campaign ad I can recall seeing in a long time. If nothing else, props to Phillips for doing something different. But lords knows if folks will realize it isn't an ad from the tourism bureau.

this is a really good illustration of a possessive on a word ending in s.

It's amusing that Phillips is repping Safeco Field when in 2007 he apologized for the 1995 vote to overrule the stadium vote saying he "deeply regret[s] it." http://slog.thestranger.com/2007/02/post….

Why is taking credit for something that he deeply regrets???

Wow, this is like Saturday Night Live and public access channel and smalltown local Chamber of Commerce commercial rolled into one..

However, I don't think it made me any less likely to vote for the guy.

Also, I love how he says "pretty good beer" against the Pyramid backdrop! "Pretty good" is actually too kind for fucking Pyramid.

Yeah, Larry Phillips "regretted" Safeco: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/lo…

Why is he doing photo ops in front of the stadium now?

I bet he can't name a single middle infielder on the team!

Kinkos won with his comment but here is some more feedback.
Safeco was Gary Locke's deal. Sound transit was supposed to reach the Airport and Northgate by now. Do we really want a politician who thinks the best things about us are our wine and beer?
Certainly, we don't need to a rehash of LA lyrics from '86.

Er, what about the problems King County is facing and the solutions we need?

It looks like Larry wants to be Prom King with Susan.

Is that "more sunglasses per person than anywhere in the country" really true?

Ok, somebody pointed out a typo and didn't even correct it right. It's not "lords knows" or "lords know", it's: LORD KNOWS. Jesus H. Christ. Also, most of you people talking shit about Larry Phillips have typos all over your comments. Your comments are all void of credulity since most of you can't spell or type or correct your errors before you make your statements public.
