French photographer Thierry Legault captured this image of Atlantis recently from 100 km south of the Kennedy Space Center. This is a crop, but you can see the full photos at his site, where he explains his methods and equipment. Also be sure to check out his awesome 2006 photos of the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station.

Yeah, it was a great picture when those of us who pay attention to these things first saw it four months ago, and it's still a great picture today.

It may or may not interest readers to know, speaking of the International Space Station, that NASA's current plan is to deorbit the ISS on purpose, and to ditch it in the ocean in 2016.
