Big (bad) news for the dog lovers of Seattle:vick.jpg

New Seattle Seahawks coach Jim Mora and ex-con Michael Vick(notes) were apparently good buddies when the pair were together with the Atlanta Falcons so now word is spreading that Vick could end up quarterbacking Seattle this season.
Wow. Nothing but wow. I did not see that coming. Next? Make Sarah Palin the team's general manager.

That would be awesome. Vick and Savage could hang out and talk about how much they enjoy the death of vicious pit bulls.

Thankfully, that rumor is nothing but unfounded bullshit. Mora has already explicitly stated that the team is not adding another quarterback. Which is a relief. I'm a pretty big Seahawks fan, but I wouldn't be if we had Michael Vick on the team.

As 2 said, bullshit. The Seahawks have been very clear that this will not happen.

I don't think any team in the NFL will actually take Vick. Oh, sure, people are talking to him, but when push comes to shove nobody's going to take the PR hit it would involve.

Awesome. The whole Michael Vick saga reinforces so many of my beliefs about football and football players. The only thing that could be more poetic is if he arrives at the first game via Blue Angel.

A sad commentary on what some elements in society. Placing more value on the life of an animal than that of another human being. He paid his debt to society, he's a young handsome man with a full life ahead of him. I hope a team in a conscious state that places more importance to a human being than to an animal takes him and that he so surpasses all expectations and past triumphs that the loony Peta types who have now partnered with racist hicks to destroy this man's life are left wandering what happened to their launch attacks against him.

@8 LC, there are some things that a man should not be able to live down with a short stint in jail and a handful of public apologies. Whenever someone brings up the "he paid his debt to society" argument, I picture Vick attaching electrodes to a dog's testicles and electrocuting it to death (one of the ways he killed dogs), and I realize that he does not deserve anyone's respect anymore. He forfeited his chance to be viewed as a decent person when he started torturing and killing innocent animals for fun and profit. It's an indication of a truly sick and depraved mind, and a year in jail won't cure that shit.

Don't make this about race. Animal torturers are evil motherfuckers no matter what their skin color.

I hope he does get signed by a team, because I can't wait to see some 300 lb. dog-loving defensive lineman cripple his sorry ass.

@8: I put the lives of several animals above his getting to have the multi-million dollar, easy living lifestyle which a return to the NFL would probably afford him. His life shouldn't be destroyed, but I'd love to see him have to WORK to make a living with no celebrity status, no adoring fans and no special treatment.

man, i hope the hawks get vick. he did the crime and did the time. if it was short so be it, its what the judge gave him, which was the higher end of the sentence, its done, even the humane society is going to work with him.

most of the peeps on this site dont know jack about football so who cares. matt is done and there are no available quarterbacks out there vick would be electric and a great addition to the hawks. and as an ex- con you get him cheap.

id bet the majority of hawks fans are gonna welcome vick. most of em dont live in seattle anyway. if they dont get him, i hope my eagles snatch him up.

football is a gladiator sport, is not a mr rogers telethon.

Maybe a lot of Seattle will be pissed if Vick comes to Seattle, but football fans forgive anything as long as the perp makes or helps to make touchdowns. When did so many people become so goddamn fickle?

@14,

I highly doubt he'll ever have adoring fans again. If he does well (gets a team to the Super Bowl), he'll have begrudging fans, but that's it. One thing most people agree on is that animal torturers are scum.

@17 Vick wouldn't be an improvement over Hasslebeck. Vick was never a good passer, and now that he's over 30, he's gonna start losing that speed that made him a threat when he was younger (he may have already lost it - we don't know, he's been out of football for a while now).

I agree with you that he should be able to play now that he's served his official punishment, but I don't want him here. Just because he did the time doesn't mean that he now deserves respect, and I seriously doubt that he's changed for the better in any way, shape or form. Maybe 10 years from now we'll know if he has, but not now.

i dont know hernandez, he was not only a great scrambler but a short precise passer as well. man has a gun and matt is done lets face facts. matt's knees are done and he is slower than edgar martinez and he just doesnt have that quick release like vick.

i dont have any respect for matt either, he is a homophobe christian right winger, as are many republican war loving football players. the nfl is not a place where you find men to respect. so a guy with an animal cruelty charge is morally worse? who knows. not for me to decide. i like football and i like gladiator sports. the ufc is probably full of scum, but i dont miss one.

id love to watch vick play again. but if the hawks dont want him thats ok i guess, i do want the eagles to take him. im sure mora -who likes vick a lot dropped it after he met with the local PETA folks who, by the way, arent people most of us "respect"

That is a good point, SeMe. It's definitely easier for me to accept people like Hass, because I have a lot of those types in my family that I manage to love and respect in spite of their political and religious views, which I do not share. I'll freely admit that animal abuse elicits a very visceral reaction in my mind that has definitely colored my opinions on Vick. To me, having political/religious views that I oppose is not as bad as killing animals for entertainment and monetary gain.

You're abolutely right about the overall character of the NFL (or any other sports league): 95% of those athletes should not be role models, but they all end up being role models anyway, so I have some respect and admiration for the few who do manage to live decent lives and set good examples.

I could see him being a good fit with Philly, we'll see if they're among the interested parties. Mora made it clear when asked that we won't be taking him.

Guy was in prison for 2 years and will serve a 6 game suspension, get over yourselves. Of course he's a scumbag, most NFL players are. But Vick wont sign here, Bellicheck didn't rule it out so he'll end up with the Patriots, Jaguars or Vikings, if he ends up in the NFL. He really wasn't a very good QB, he'd best be used in the wildcat, as a flanker and kick returner.

I think the smoke is from the bone rubbing against bone in Hasselbeck's knee. That's the only reason, to me, that this conversation occurs--our starting QB is on the decline, and his backup is an unknown in a way that Vick is not.

How is Seneca Wallace an unknown? He's undersized but mobile and can get out of the pocket. He's a poor mans Vick but with better judgement on the field, and hopefully off.

How about this.

Did michael pay his debt to society ... sure why not

Michael Vick is also in ass loads of debt. I'm not exactly sure why he should suffer more. Whatever money he makes, he doesn't really get to keep, it will go toward lawyer fees and to the NFL.

Personally, I think that kind of indentured servitude is greater punishment than any prison sentence. Beating up your body playing grunt positions you haven't played since college, just to pay off lawyer debts?

Even better, on your hands and knees BEGGING for the opportunity to work for nothing just to pay of your lawyer fees ... Doesn't that appeal to anyones sense of sadism?

Honestly, I want him back in the NFL, just not on my team and most certainly NOT in Seattle. Seattle already has enough PR issues with being a football, the last thing they need is a thug. Seattle takes great pains to NOT recruit thugs. Let Vick go to the Patriots, they seem to do pretty well in reforming thugs.

fuck michael vick, he should be banned from the league. a lot of NFL players fuck up, they get a dui, or get involved with some domestic dispute, or take drugs or whatever, but most of that stuff is what happens when you give kids a lot of money and attention. they make mistakes. then they get punished. michael vick didn't make a mistake. there's nothing accidental about what he did. you don't torture a dog to death as a spur of the moment kind of thing. his crime is a reflection of deeper faults. he's a scum bag and a creep and he's bad for the overall image of the NFL, so fuck him.

Never gonna happen. The Hawks have been unloading low character guys since Ruskell got there. He would not fit in at all, and would cause a huge PR problem. We also already have QB who runs fast and could do the wildcat named Seneca Wallace.

People also forget that Michael Vick had numerous problems and questions about his character even before the dog fighting thing came to light. Painting him as some poor victim who deserves a second chance to "earn a living", only takes an NFL job away from another athlete who is more deserving.

"or get involved with some domestic dispute,"

Rape is a domestic dispute? Please. The seahawks agressively recruited Stevens, and nobody cried foul. like i said, the only reason seattle let him go was because he sucked on the field.

Seneca Wallace couldn't shine Vick's shoes. he cant even see above his linemen. The guy is 4 2 at best, he belongs in mexican midget wrestling. he had 3 or 4 good games with the hawks at the most.

Comparing Wallace to Vick is just silly talk. Pure nonsense.

I read somewhwere that seahawks use to feed on
coyote and wolf pups, however with the influx of
pet dogs and cats these past 50 or so years, they
are feeding on that easy prey. Easy pickings, I
suppose.

@31,
You know it. I believe that football players are basically a bunch of teenage fascists who are groomed by rich sadists into professional thugs and date rapists. Football itself is basically a bloodsport rebranded as mass entertainment, staged by an impossibly wealthy corporation, whereby men are fed huge quantities of performance enhancing drugs in order to bash themselves into wreckage and satisfy some kind of sick nationalism called "local pride."

To these eyes, Michael Vick fits right in.

As for as I am concerned Vick is a sociopath who does nothing but add to the decay of society. He deserves nothing more than to be in prison surrounded by vicious dogs to pay him back for the harm he has done to others. When he is torn up, fix him up and put him back in the cage!

sigh ... vengence isn't locking person away out of sight and mind so that they can never see the light of day, maybe even learn how to trade drugs, and become an another anonymous black thug of obscurity.

Vengence is the promise of glory, greatness, and redemption. Where every dollar, cent, and personal accomplishment is taken away for the golden price of social acceptance.

And have it STILL not be enough.

Michael Vick is being delivered the mind fuck of a lifetime ... it's not about playing football, or glory, it's about paying his debts to society, most certainly monetarily. What the hell is he going to do to pay his multi-million dollar debt, work at a soup kitchen?

@46... Right on. Personally, I'm hoping for Arena football for Vick (too bad the XFL ain't around anymore). For him, that would be the perfect level of HELL (tm xtians, fuck that Dante guy).

Speaking of Dante (Culpepper), most Vikings fans in MN don't want Vick, because of things like the 'Love Boat' scandal a couple years ago. Also, because Farve made the Vikings front office look like idiots. I still think Farve did it to apologize to Green Bay...

"Sorry 'bout that guys, let me make it up to you. I'll get the Vikings undies in a bundle, psych out their QBs, and fuck over their training camp. Then I'll retire again and take that $20 mil deal y'all offered a couple years ago."
