Part of the Problem

Get out your red pencils...

Yeah, what does they have in common? Who are "Smoke 'n the Doobies"? Is that a band? And who ate your question marks?

Dear stoners: If you want to portray pot smokers as intelligent, capable, and literate citizens, at least proofread your own propaganda.

Idiots like these impede legalization at least as much if not more than those who are against it.

Stoned people aren't always the gratest righters. The Hempfest poster this year misspells "Elliot Bay."

The type of person who posts up sloppily-photocopied propaganda posters around town is the same type of person who thinks they'll make any sort of difference, and that type of person is not a smart person; ergo, this.

@3 Yeah, but jeez, at least find yourself a stoner who can properly proofread your materials.

That is hilarious. Could someone from The Stranger interview the creator of said flyer and ask them why they are making us look like idiots? Being an Engineer I'm not so good with the English but this is just horrible.....

"Stoned people aren't always the gratest righters."

Hee hee hee... "righters." I'm going to go ahead and assume that was on purpose, Dom.

I've never liked the "Thomas Jefferson did it, so it's good for America" argument. There's 1,001 sound, sane reasons to legalize marijuana that this sort of ephemera rarely addresses. Jefferson was a brilliant man, but , er... he did a lot of stuff.

And 1/4 of the Presidents? I seriously can't see Van Buren takin' rips from the ol' Kinderbong. Clinton's off on a technicality, I think, and Obama... maybe, but who were the other 9?

When I saw "Smoke 'n The Doobies" I seriously thought it was a band and they were going to play a show somewhere with a back porch. Imagine my disappointment.

I blame the lack of college spots at the UW for State residents.

Sorry.

lily @8 - I love that you completely missed that "gratest" was also misspelled. It was clearly intentional.

Seriously: I know the "Washington and Jefferson smoked reefers" idea comes from the fact that they grew hemp (despite the hempers' continued assurances that "hemp is not pot, pot is not hemp), which is plenty stupid enough all by itself; but where does Lincoln come into it? Anyone?

You darn dead presidents! You've been smoke'n the doobies again, haven't you? I bet you were listening to your rock and roll music and ridin' your skateboards, too.

Fnarf@15,

My dim recollection of marijuana legalization politics from decades ago is that Washington and Jefferson talk about the quality of the leaf rather than the products you make from it. They also exchanged tips on separating out male and female plants, something that you don't have to worry about if you're just focusing on cultivation for industrial use.

But Lincoln? Not a stoner. No.

"hemp is not pot, pot is not hemp["]... which is plenty stupid enough all by itself

What the fuck are you talking about, Fnarf?

@15,
ok, Fnarf, I came up with a new interpretation of your post. Now I think you intended for the "which" to refer to "the fact that they grew hemp," not to the "hemp is not pot" quote.
In that case, it's easier to see your point.

ASSHOLE, YOU MISSED ONE OF OUR FUCKUPS: WHAT DO X & Y HAVE IN COMMON, NOT WHAT DOES.

WE SMOKERS HAVE SMART TO SPARE APPARENTLY.

Presumably the reference is:

http://sparkreport.net/2009/07/president…

Synposis: Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Jackson, Taylor, Pierce, Lincoln, Kennedy, Carter,
Clinton, Shrub & Obama.

Thanks butterw. They don't teach you that in history class. Your link says: "Carter also hosted many marijuana smoke- filled events at the White House"!? That actually seems like the most far-fetched fact on that site, even though I know Carter wanted to legalize pot.
