Crime / News Seattle Athlete Injured by Bomb at OutGames in Denmark

Fucked up. The basics from KOMO:

A runner from Seattle competing at an international gay sporting event in Denmark has been injured in an apparent bombing at the stadium where he was expecting to compete.

Seattle FrontRunners says one of its members, Dean Koga, was getting ready to run in the 4x200-meter relay at the OutGames when someone in the stands threw three small explosives onto the track late Tuesday.

Koga was hit with shrapnel and is recovering from surgery to remove the material from his hand.

Police in Copenhagen have arrested a 31-year-old Dane they believe threw the explosives, and investigators are calling this a hate crime.

And from a follow-up report by Outsports.com:

Less than a day after spending four hours having shrapnel surgically removed from his right hand following a bomb attack, Koga took his place Wednesday on the blue-colored lanes under partly cloudy skies, his right hand bandaged, shook off the memories of what had happened and won a gold medal in his age group in the men's 200 meters.

Coming out of an alleged hate crime with a gold medal? You rule, Dean Koga. (Also, I am very glad you are okay.)

Perhaps the bombthrower took the expression "oppression olympics" too literally?

If there was anything higher than a gold medal to award he more than earned it.

The USA is represented in soccer/football by Stonewall FC, a team from Seattle. They are 3-0 to-date, (beating Mexico, Italy and hosts Denmark) and play Iceland in the quarterfinals tomorrow. Oh, what I wouldn't do for a big ol' gay Eidur Gudjohnsen...

So exactly why is there an "OutGames"?

And what are "outsports"?

You've got to be kidding me. Seriously?

The only way these "events" get any publicity is if someone bombs them. Quite telling I'd say....

More telling is how no major news org has picked up the AP blurb, and no news outlet in the US has reported on this except the usual suspects, and local Seattle affiliates.

While I don't agree with the tactics of the bomb thrower, I can understand his hate of short track running events.

@ #9: More telling is how you are a total fuckhead. My boyfriend is competing in the Outgames, and if he were reading the SLOG right now, he'd tell you to go fuck yourself, you worthless excuse for a human being.
