Financial Update in the Race for Licata's Seat

Posted by on Wed, Jul 29, 2009 at 6:10 PM

With all three candidates reporting financial data through July 27th, Martin Kaplan leads the way in cash on hand in the race for Nick Licata's city council seat with $45,157 in the bank. Kaplan has raised $71,456, some $20,000 less than Licata, who has brought in $90,935 and spent $55,119. Jessie Israel raised $66,493, spent $22,881, and has $32,038 worth of obligations, leaving her with about $11,000 on hand.

The three candidates have all taken fairly different approaches with their expenditures. Kaplan has spent nearly half of his money on consultants. Israel spent a similar proportion, more than $20,000, on mail pieces. Licata's spending was mostly done over the course of the last couple of years, but he did recently drop $2,500 for those “walk with Nick” banner ads that you see all over the blogosphere.

If Marty Kaplan is running for City Council, why do his robo-calls identify themselves as being from "Vashon"? And why are they so goddamn loud? I hung up after five seconds of distorted shouting. I think he's getting a raw deal from his consultants.
