Slog: Now Part of the Congressional Record

Posted by on Tue, Jul 28, 2009 at 11:01 AM

When we heard that Gil Kerlikowske, our former police chief, was a candidate for Drug Czar, we asked if he could score us some Percocet. But he refused. So instead we told him Good Luck and Good Riddance. One reason we thought he'd make a nice fit as the king of the kingpins: he went easy on needle exchange in Seattle. But when ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Arlen Specter (D-PA), saw what I wrote in this post, he asked about it. Here's the comment from Slog that got introduced into the congressional record.

Specter then asked, "Does that statement fairly reflect your position toward needle exchange programs as chief of police in Seattle?"

Kerli answered:

Needle exchange programs have been in existence in Seattle for many years. When I was police commissioner in Buffalo there was also a needle exchange program. From a law enforcement perspective, they are not a cause of significant public safety problems.

This and every comment you've ever made on Slog—as well as your PIN—are also part of the Congressional record over here.

The Congressional Record is the original Slog, in a totally non-ironic sense.
