Rotten Animal + Hot Pavement = Horrendous Stench

Posted by on Tue, Jul 28, 2009 at 3:58 PM

KOMO shows the work behind my math:

A rendering truck lost its load and scattered animal parts all over the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 on Monday night. Crews said the stench was horrendous.

Full KOMO report—including a photo of the spilled carnage from the Washington State Patrol—here.

As if Tacoma didn't smell bad enough...

That phrase, "I think I just threw up in my mouth a little," has never before been so apt.

This story just made me vegan.

Those parts don't look that big. I was expecting something like the rendering truck in Charles Mudede's horse-killing adventure.

HOT PUSSY 4
My wife and I encountered a spilled load of cow heads, bones, and offal on I-5 near Green Lake back in 2002. Had traffic backed up for miles.

I drove past these bits last night and I can safely say it's the grossest thing I've ever seen on an interstate. And I grew up in Idaho, so that's for real real.

Cops keep cigars handy for situations involving bloated rotting corpses. Makes it easier to direct traffic, and keeps the flies that just emerged from maggots away from your face.

a lovely neighborhood bar (which i will not name because i love it so, and don't want it to lose any business this week, what with their awesome patio and all) had a squirrel die in their outdoor recycling dumpster this weekend. just the smell of one tiny squirrel is nearly overwhelming on the patio. nasty. now that we're into the week, i'm sure they have gotten it taken care of. amazing how fast animals can rot in this weather.

Weird. I'd have expected a screed by one of our resident psycho-vegans by now about how eating meat, in addition to causing global warming and obesity, can now be linked to highway backups...

@6 - Vick's Vapo-Rub under the nostrils helps as well.

Shouldn't be too difficult to clean up, just throw on a little formula 409 and napalm.

I drove through there about an hour ago (7:00pm, tuesday) and it still smelled horrible. I'm sure the heat is making it worse.

No, silly. Eating meat has nothing to do with backups caused by trucks that spill their loads of rendered animals!

Trite as it may be, I think the expression 'Your shipment of Fail has been delivered' would be appropriate here.

Judging from the picture it must have been a terrible scene to drive up on. Like, oh my, what happened here? Thinking that the animals were alive before the hit the pavement.

Meh

The innerwebs can do lots of things – but smell and touch aren't among them.

Smells fine from where I sit

For a brief moment when I saw this on the news Monday night, I was glad there wasn't a cooling breeze from the south.
