Two interesting readings tonight.
Elliott Bay Book Company hosts Rick Bass tonight. He's one of the best living nature writers in the business. In his newest book, The Wild Marsh: Four Seasons at Home in Montana, Bass writes about the Yaak Valley of northwestern Montana.
And University Book Store hosts Rudy Rucker. Rucker is a science fiction author who is also "a proponent of 'gnarl,' the creation of art that lives at the boundary between order and chaos." He is reportedly a good public speaker. An early book of his, Freeware, is very good. I tend to like sci-fi authors who don't take their work completely seriously—that is, the work is still smart, but it's definitely not hard sci-fi, where the author seems to fervently believe that the book can happen in the real world. If you like humor and satire in your sci-fi, you should make this your reading of the night.
The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here. And if you're planning on staying in and you're looking for personalized book recommendations, feel free to tell me the books you like and ask me what to read next over at Questionland.
