The Motive

Posted by on Sat, Jul 25, 2009 at 3:32 PM

The "Suspect Report" for Isaiah M.K. Kalebu, obtained by the Seattle Times, suggests that police believe the motive in the South Park murder of Teresa Butz on Sunday was, in part, rape.

From the report:

On 7/19/09, at approximately 0307 hours, neighbors were awakened by two women who were hysterically screaming, who live at XXX Rose St.

Witnesses state that one woman, T. Butz, broke out a bedroom window and escaped through the window naked and covered in blood. Butz ran into the street and collapsed. Butz immediately died from stab wounds inflicted by an unknown assailant.

A second victim, XXXX, ran out the front door, also naked and covered in blood. XXXX was screaming that her and her partner (T. Butz) had been brutally assaulted and stabbed by a black male.

The report goes on to state that yesterday, shortly before he was arrested, police tied Isaiah M.K. Kalebu to fingerprints and bodily fluids left at the scene. He's being charged with two counts of rape, murder, attempted murder, and burglary, and is being held on $10 million bail.

And the judge who let this guy go free just a few days ago? Is anyone going to remember what he is responsible for the next time he's up for reelection? Will someone more qualified please run against him? Will the Stranger Election Board please endorse someone else who will better keep our community safe? Shame on you, Judge Gain. He was standing in your courtroom and you let him walk free, free to kill.

@3 The trick is to generalize your hatred beyond race and hold the entire species in contempt.

@3: That dude was apparently so out of his mind, I highly doubt he knew what his own skin color was, let alone that of his victims. So really, don't get fitted for a cone hat and a sheet quite yet...

And really, Shannon Harps was killed by a white guy...Mia Zapata's killer was Latino...and let's not forget Mr. Ng's ranch...it's an equal opportunity, fucked up world.

Wow, thank God King County's looney left judges let this man out! Now we get to watch 'social justice' run wild.

Good police work. He was probably planning his next assault.

Judge Gain was told the guy missed an earlier court date AND that he was wanted for homicide arson in Pierce County AND that involved the home of his mother AND that earlier he had made threats against her violent threats, so bad she got a protection order....

oh and yeah, the pit bull.....

Wow, when election time come along I hope voters remember Judge Gain. I'm sure other judges do shit like this all the time, but let's especially remember to replace this douche-nozzle.

@ 9,

The pitbull's was better behaved and saner than his master. Leave the poor mutt alone, he's got enough problems. He wound up on death row too and he didn't actually do anything.

why why why? it's so senseless. did he really expect to waltz in, leave fingerprints and fluids all over the place, and then get away? and how did the police know to tie him to the scene even before that? he must have done something really obvious.

and given his other history...this guy must truly be crazy.
and then when i start thinking that...he's crazy...i get all confused. is there a difference between evil and crazy? can you blame someone who isn't right in the head? or is crazy really just one manifestation of evil? and what made him crazy/evil?

@11, That very well could be, but I find it odd that he didn't own a golden retriever or a lab. Who knows how he treated that dog, and we all know what they're capable of.

Your first link should probably be this.

But hooray, an explanation! Why did SPD wait a day to explain all this, however? They had their man. And "Because they didn't want to spook him into hiding or fleeing" doesn't fly as an explanation because, well, they flat out publically fingered him by name as the suspect days ago. Wouldn't he have fled then if he was going to flee?

But now here we are. This was a senseless crime, so let's not go on any crusades, because like The Crusades, it will only lead down a long and brutal road to nowhere. And kids will probably be involved at the expense of their growth and development.

holy f'n crap. worst nightmare ever.

Random and horrifying. I feel for the woman who has to live through this and the family and friends of the woman who died.

It's made me think twice about opening my windows at night. It's so damn stuffy so I have to, but I'm on high alert and ALWAYS close them before I go to bed.

"As Kalebu's trial date neared, his mother told King County prosecutors that she would not testify against him, according to court testimony."

Maybe if she had, Teresa Butz would still be alive and her son might still be a free man today.

Free, that is, to attack his own mother again. Too bad her misplaced sense of loyalty prevented her from realizing that he should have been locked up, for her and everyone else's safety.

@11

His pit bulls aren't on death row. You can go down to the KCAS and, once he's in jail, adopt them.

This is the 2nd pit bull they've taken from him this month, the first one wasn't registered, and he was trying to pass it off as a service animal in the courthouse.

@15 - The safe guess is that SPD wanted the opportunity to interrogate him and try for a confession before they showed their cards. We all want details in cases like this but the cops just can't release some things until the case is solid.

Is there any compelling reason WHY they should have released it sooner?
