Heat Wave This Weekend?

Posted by on Fri, Jul 24, 2009 at 9:20 AM

As reported in Morning News, the National Weather Service says it's gonna be HOT this weekend—the hottest weekend all year?—but the forecasts now say 85 on Saturday and 90 on Sunday for Seattle. Pretty hot—drink some water along with that beer and wear sunscreen—but not THAT hot.

UW weathergod Cliff Mass says it's next week that's going to melt your face off:

We are on track for an extraordinary heat wave next week...or so the models suggest. We will have very warm air over us. However, to get the real record-breakers, strong offshore and downslope flow is needed and it doesn't look that such easterly flow will develop until mid week. One unusual feature of the predicted heat wave is its duration. Normally, our really hot (above 90F) periods are brief...this could last for days. More on this over the weekend...but be ready.

He also has some lovely photographs of the recent noctilucent clouds. Noctilucent! What a beautiful word.

And further down on the weathergodblog is this alarming tidbit:

2009 is the driest 20May-19 Jul period on record using the combined SeaTac/downtown observations.

This is pretty serious. It could mean forest fires in the Olympic National Park or on the west side of the Cascades. Even wildfires here in Seattle. August and September could be very bad months. I hope people will be very careful with fire and start to conserve water now.

My favorite part is that Fox News last winter was screeming the line of global warming being a hoax. Anyone notice that during the extreme heat of summer they don't say a fucking word about it?

At least we can finally start to get suntans around here as well as the cancer that goes with it.

Shut up, you pussies. It's a lot worse in Spokane.

But then again, everything's a lot worse in Spokane.

@10: We weren't comparing our lot to that of Spokane. But since you brought it up, why don't you get the fuck out of Spokane if you're so smart?

TVDinner,

You have my sympathy. I remember expecting both lil kin in portlands in hot 90+ weather. Not fun, incubating already makes one hot without the temperature rising. Take care.
