For Lindy's Approval

Posted by on Fri, Jul 24, 2009 at 2:43 PM

Dear Ms. West:

On the corner of Broadway and East Pike Street, just outside the fences of the Block Party, there is a trinity of barkers handing out pages that promote the "BEST MOVIES." There are 130 "BEST MOVIES" plus one additional movie, Schindler's List, which is numbered 93 (even though there is another 93rd best movie, Smart People). The trinity says they do not know why these are the best movies; a man made the list but the man was gone so I could not ask him. So are these movies, in fact, the "BEST MOVIES"? Here are the top 10:

1. The Insider
2. John Adeams HBO
3. Hotel Rwanda
4. Nanking
5. Veronica Guerin
6. Stardust
7. House of Saddam HBO
8. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
9. Transformers [!!!]
10. Elizabeth the Golden Age

Surely The Insider is the best film in cinematic history, right? I await your reply.

Truly yours,
Dom

I guess until someone trademarks the term "best movies," anyone with a pen and paper is free to make up a bullshit list and hand it out to passerby.

As apparently this guy did.

Yes, this is accepted as the definitive list.

This has to be one of the stranger occurrences I've heard of in a while.

One hundred years of film and the top 10 on this list have been made since 2000 or so? Um, no. Fail! Now put away the lollipop, hon.

What happened to "Roadhouse"? It's on TV all the time, after all.

Fifty-Two-Eighty 13
Hmph. None of these would even make my top 100. Not that I have a top 100, because, you know, that would be kinda weird.

So that's what that was. Now I feel bad that I didn't take one.

@3,

Definitely.

Any list of great movies that omits "Major League," "The Blues Brothers," and "Used Cars" is not a list worth considering.

Can someone un-mothball the Enigma Machine? I first suspected the key was that they all have easy porn homonyms ("The Inside-her"?) but now I'm not so certain. Has anyone forwarded this list to Nicholas Cage and/or Jon Voight? This might have something to do with a disappeared mule-cart of Union gold or some shit.

sad, it's totally this self-proclaimed anarchist crazyhead who pays junkies to distribute his literature... been doing it a while and more than just this list.

Now I want to make my own list of Best Movies and leave it in random places. (P.S. The list from 2007 that someone linked above is similar, but a different list. For example, former #3 The Holiday seems to have slipped out of the top ten.)

CHINATOWN and DR. STRANGELOVE should also be at the top of this list, right Lindy?
and of course GOONIES.
