Hell's Kitchen? I've Underestimated You… AGAIN!

Posted by on Thu, Jul 23, 2009 at 4:36 PM

Time was when I was the biggest Hell's Kitchen fan, like, EVER. Nothing filled me with giddy joy like Chef Gordon Ramsay dumping a plate of undercooked risotto on an inexperienced cook's chest and screaming, "DO IT AGAIN, YOU FUCKING DONKEY!!"
But then? I don't know… for some reason Chef Ramsay and I grew apart, and the repetitiveness of the show began to grow tiresome. THAT IS, UNTIL LAST NIGHT!
In the waning moments of yesterday's two-hour season premiere episode, Long Island goombah-wannabe Joseph stepped on Chef Ramsay's last nerve and WHOA NELLIE! Is there gonna be a kitchen slap fight, or what? (Seriously, I don't know. Because they're not going to show it until next week. BASTARDS!!) Anyway, insecure male posturing doesn't get much better than this!

I hate everything about this mean spirited show.

I like it when he is screaming and stumbles on his insults: "THIS CHICKEN IS...PINKER THAN YOUR LIPSTICK!"

So basically the gist of this show is that this guy is a fucking dick for no reason?

Gordon Ramsey is always right. Joseph is a blockhead and a creep, and he is unable to follow the simplest instruction or answer the simplest question.

Joseph is why I don't like stupid men.

The casting agents for these reality shows are such manipulative assholes. They knew a hot-tempered jackwad like Joseph would explode the first time Ramsey laid into him, and he did. I love the show, don't get me wrong. But sometimes I wish they would just cast talented chefs without "grabber" personality traits and let the actual competition drive the narrative instead of these cheap sideshow antics.

Dude, you're talking about US Reality TV. Heston Blumenthal does a good series of shows for the BBC, it's like a Good Eats that doesn't appeal to the lowest common denominator of "foodie"dom.

You want actual tests of cooking skills? That's what Top Chef is for.

I hate the stupid dramatic stings they have to insert into these shows.
