Every Child Deserves A Mother and a Father

Posted by on Thu, Jul 23, 2009 at 9:49 AM

Three children were kept in a hotel bathroom for about a year and were "horribly emaciated" when police found them earlier this month, authorities said. One claimed to have been repeatedly sexually assaulted. The children's mother, 30-year-old Abneris Santiago, is charged with injury to a child. Her 37-year-old live-in boyfriend, Alfred Santiago, is charged with aggravated sexual assault and continuous sexual abuse.... Officers found a healthy 1-year-old girl—the child of the Santiagos, Jamison said—in a crib. Inside the bathroom, they found an 11-year-old girl, a 10-year-old boy and a 5-year-old boy—Abneris Santiago's children from other relationships, Jamison said. It was apparent the children suffered from "serious physical, emotional and mental neglect," according to the affidavit. The 10-year-old was covered in bruises and all three were "horribly emaciated, underweight and malnourished," the affidavit said.

Jesus, that's horrible. But just imagine how much worse it would have been if they'd been raised by them homersecksuals.

'Live-in' boyfriends are a huge risk to children.
"Open Relationship" Heaven notwithstanding...

Maybe all of the people who have been emotionally/physically/sexually abused by one or more parents in a heterosexual relationship should all get together and have our own coalition to either legalize gay marriage or abolish marriage itself. I will be the founding member if others would like to join.

I think I'm starting to lose the message for marriage equality from these ECDAMAF posts, and instead am re-evaluating my current opposition to the death penalty.

these abusers were not married
and how, exactly, would gay marriage have prevented this?

They're both named "santiago" but he's her boyfriend, not spouse? Did one of them change his/her name pro-actively expecting a marriage at some point? Are they siblings? Cousins? Or is santiago as common as "smith"?

Actually, the lesson from this piece would appear to be that it's good to be the biological child of the parents living together, because all the other children are going to get screwed.

@4 stories like these make me re-evaluate my opposition to summary execution.

@7 - Oh, come on now, that's not fair. You don't know for certain that the 1-year-old girl would not eventually have been abused as well.

@5: you're missing the point. the point is that 'traditional marriage' (or, in this case, 'traditional cohabitation') is not sacred. if it were, these things woudln't happen.

I am unaware of anyone who ever claimed that shacking up was sacred.

As disgusting as it is that these men keep abusing these kids, WTF is wrong with the mothers? How is it that they continue to allow this crap? My mom was married to my dad for 33+ years, and I knew without a shadow of a doubt that if he had touched me, she would have been on my side instantly.

Every woman I know feels the same way about their kids...WTF is up with these women? How can they just hand their kids off to these assholes?
