Today in Small-Dog News

017f/1248288217-000750818.jpgGidget, the Taco Bell Chihuahua, died yesterday at age 15. Nothing personal, but for a person with a Chihuahua, this dog brought nothing but annoyance. If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me if my dog likes Taco Bell... well, I'd probably have about 40 dollars. Still sad, though.

In weirder news, a dog in China has adopted two red-panda cubs abandoned by their mother at the Taiyuan Zoo in Shanxi Province.

The Examiner reports:

The humiliation of "giving birth in its pen, in broad daylight and in front of a huge crowd of visitors," was apparently too much for the new mother, who had recently arrived from a nature reserve. "It abruptly turned its back on the babies and refused to nurse them," said the spokesperson.

Zookeepers scrambled to find a wet nurse for the pair of baby red pandas… The mama dog chosen for the job belongs to a local farmer. She is a sweet-tempered, white Chihuahua-looking pooch who had given birth to a puppy just three days before the red pandas were born.

On a non-dog note: Red pandas are soooo awesome!

You have a chihuahua? Wow. Because chihuahuas are like really fucking disgusting. I'd sooner have a pet rat. (Come to think of it, they're about the same.)

There's not even enough meat there to make a decent meal, either.

Nature is weird when humans get involved.

Is it weird that I've been obsessed with red pandas ever since kung fu panda?

Red pandas are also crafty. I live near the Cincinnati Zoo, and one escaped via a fallen branch through the tree canopy and ended up a block away in a homeowner's tree (they did notice it had gone missing pretty quickly, though)

Maybe that's why you hate dogs. If you got a real breed of dog instead of a KFC-meal-reject, you'd be in a better mood.
Or do you just like pussies more, Mrs. Slocombe? ;p
