Wedding Peeve

Posted by on Mon, Jul 20, 2009 at 3:15 PM

8b45/1248127385-408px-jackieowedding.jpgIt's the wedding time of year. On Saturday I spent the afternoon down at Denny Blaine beach. A wedding party had rented part of the park and got married near us. It seemed like a great ceremony (loved the singer guy!), and it was all very festive. However, one of my pet peeves was scratched: Namely, wedding guests who wear long, white gowns. So, dress wearer: You were thinking about going to the wedding and about what to wear. You decided wearing a long, white, beaded gown was the best choice? Seriously? Step back, sister.

nobody cares that a violation of a social norm bothers you

Wow, I can't believe somebody would actually do that.

I hate weddings (in fact, the whole industry), and I've always wondered why anyone outside of the bride and groom and their families would have any interest that two people have decided to make it legal, fuck regularly, decide to breed, or whatever the ceremony means to the involved.

And the gift thing? Tell you what. I'll buy something on your gift list for your nuptials when you buy something on mine for having to act like a give a shit, mm-kay?

if i was a bride and some bitch showed up at my wedding in a long white gown, i'd rip the dress off her and kick her ass to the curb...

but, i'm not, and i can't, so i won't.

@3 Whoa, what crawled up your ass and died? Just because you don't understand or enjoy something does not in any way compel you to be a dick about it.

@4 and 5: This is why God made red wine and faux-clumsy stumbles. A bit of a flip in the wrist should let you "spill" from far enough away that your own white dress remains pristine.

@7 why on earth would the bride have to this herself? Isn't that what bridesmaids are for?

@2: Nope, I've seen it done -- by the mother of the bride. Classy lady.

My cousin wore her actual wedding dress to my wedding. I didn't mind though. I thought she looked pretty, and besides, since my dress had an 8 foot long train and an even longer veil, it was a pretty safe bet that people would recognize me as The Bride.

while I think that a guest wearing a long white dress to a wedding is worse, I really don't get the stupid people who wear black to a wedding! maybe I'm just old school, I hear it's the hot thing to have your brides maids wear black, but I think it's pretty yucky.

my sister's mother in law wore a big black dress to her wedding, it really pissed off my sister. her MIL is a total freak though anyway.

I collect etiquette books, and while traditionally black has been the color of mourning in the west, it's just a color. I've been to a wedding where almost every one, with the exception of the bride, were in black or the like, and it wasn't even a goth ceremony! When people lose their shit over what other people are wearing at their weddings (or other people's weddings for that matter) it's probably not really about the clothes.

Given that everyone has a weird family, and that family come to weddings, it is inevitable that somebody will do something weird at your wedding. It happens. Part of the benefit of having a big event like that is you learn who not to invite to other parties you host.

If you were white to another woman's wedding you should know that every other woman at said wedding will be talking to each other about how big of a bitch you are.

I was at one wedding were this stupid bitch wore a white dress, no nylons to cover up her super bruised up legs and had a crying baby on her hip.

Bitch.

@14 again, it's just a color. Maybe that was the nicest dress she had. Did anyone offer to help with the baby? I wonder what happened to her legs? I wasn't there, so I don't have any more information than what you have provided about this woman. Maybe she is a bitch, but I doubt it would be because of the baby and the bruises.

once I wore a knee-length, light pink lace dress and man, they will NEVER LET ME LIVE IT DOWN.
